Did I get flashed?
Discussion
Today I was driving north on the A68 on the Northumberland/Scotland border and 'think'
I got flashed by one of the many speed cameras.
As anybody who knows this road will know there are alot of them but it's a much nicer drive than tha A1 so always use this route when heading north.
I believe these cameras are Gatso and I am under the impression they can only catch you from behind or when you are passing it on the same side of the road but this might be just pub talk.
I got flashed face on to the grey side of the camera not the illuminated yellow side, the camera was also on the opposite side of the road if it makes any difference.
There was no other traffic at all on the road so no chance of it being anybody else.
I was doing an indicated 77 so about an actual 73/74 ish.
Im not trying to wriggle out of it, if I was caught fair enough but my concern is the fact it was in scotland and I was in a hire car booked through my employer in england. I am concerned that by the time the NIP eventually makes it's way to me, the time to nominate the driver may have elapsed and I could be held liable for a higher fine.
Can anybody shed any light on the above?
Thanks.

I have travelled that road loads and its a lovely road. The only problem is they put the camera's in some of the best spots to overtake.
If its any consolation I have been flashed a few times by the cameras on the opposite side of the road and as yet have not heard anything so you should be fine.

Can you post a picture of the camera in question, or at least one like it ?

There's plenty of time for a s.172 to go to hire company, your employer and then to you. Been flashed by approaching GATSO type cameras numerous times: they are approved to photograph the rear of your car only (seems a daft way to get pictures of decent motors to me
), so you won't hear anything. IIRC all the scams on A68 on the overtaking bits are GATSO. Seems insane to place them where they do. I am certain that results in a more dangerous route overall.

No, doesn't work like that. The hire firm (as RK) get a NIP, and 28 days to name the driver. They name your employer as the hirer within the 28 days.
Your employer gets a NIP, and the clock restarts with a fresh 28 days to name the driver. They name you within the 28 days.
You get a NIP, and the clock restarts with a fresh 28 days to name the driver. You stick your hand up within the 28 days. You then get an FPN or an invitation to tea and biscuits or an invitation to chat it over in more formal surroundings, and the usual amount of time to reply.

I'm fairly sure these are all standard gatso's. I have certainly triggered one travelling towards it, this was in the dark doing an overtake when suddenly a brilliant and dazzling double flash blinded me. Fortunately I managed to complete the manoeuvre as the road was straight (which I knew) but it took 20-30 seconds for my vision to return to normal.
"Safety cameras?", what a disgrace

They don't just put them in the best spots, they're just about the only spots to overtake!!If its any consolation I have been flashed a few times by the cameras on the opposite side of the road and as yet have not heard anything so you should be fine.

Yes, that's a Gatso Type 24 - not approved in the UK for front facing use.
Fingers crossed then. Another comforting note on this is the Volvo V40 I have on hire was beeping on the approach to every camera and never failed once to alert me to one on my side of the road, but kept quiet at the suspect flashy camera.
The only case IIRC that someone got done by driving TOWARDS one of these: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2009/august/aug...

That case doesn't involve a Gatso Type 24 camera.DaveH23 said:
