About to buy

Hi

I'm in the process of selling my twin turbo supra and about to buy a chimaera.

I've been offered one in part exchange - P990 GNC

I'll be taking it for a spin next weekend but was wondering if anyone knows any history on it?

From what i've read, around this sort of time was when all the changes were made -is that correct?

With regards to driver aids, i've heard that PAS was optional, i'm not bothered either way but does anyone know what sort of % had this fitted?

What are the most common issues that I should check out, i will be getting it done professionally but only on the one i want

PAS was an option (about £900), but became standard about R reg.

what sort of price would you expect to pay for a p reg 4.0 with 55k

Is there any issues when you get to this sort of mileage?

I'd expect no more than £12000 for that kind of car, perhaps slightly more depending upon condition.

Make sure you're accompanied by somebody who knows a lot about TVRs before you buy anything. I bought mine from the RO of the S.Yorks TVR car club, so I was lucky in that respect, but a few others I saw were definitely 'steer clear' types.

You want to be buying from an enthusiast, not somebody who 'heard TVRs were good and fancied one over a 911'. Don't buy the first one you see, its a very easy car to fall in love with, and there are a great many out there that are going to cost you much more than the price on the window.

PAS is no biggie, its only a pain not to have it when you're parallel parking

so if a 1997 P plater with 55,000 on the clock is only worth about 12k, what do you think a 95 is worth, and then a 93 with similar mileage..?

Depending on condition I'd say +/- 10% from a base 13k for that sort of mileage, though this would depend if this was a P plate with facelift, P/Steering, history etc. Obviously the closer we get to sumer then the more this is likely to creep up.
Remember that a dealer is going to have a margin to work for so 13k private value would be anywhere up to 15k dealer.
You should really be looking to pay for condition before age, if its pristine then it would make it a far better buy than say a 2k cheaper but very ropey newer model. If in any doubt then get an independant inspection done (preferably by a TVR specialist such as James Agger) who will also be able to let you know if they think the price is right for the car.

It is the facelift model regarding cosmetics although not sure where the button is. It also has the light conversion done on the front similar to the Tuscan.

How are these viewed by everyone? desireable mod or lose value?

My personal opinion on the light conversion is that it doesn't really suit the car, the Cerb is different as it fits in with the roof curves etc.
Also, its an expensive conversion to have done and you often (though not always) see them having been done following an accident - make sure this one hasn't had a smack on the front, ask why the previous owner decided to have the conversion done.
Remember that there are a lot for sale at the moment and not to fall for the first one you see.

The door button. Its either on the door or under the wing mirror depending on whether face lift model or not from what i understand. I'm going to look at the car on Saturday.

how does it compare to a chim?
