Brightwells classic auction
Discussion
I spent an hour looking around Brightwells classic auction viewing today. Some interesting cars, I was amazed at the estimate of 40k on an F308 GT4 - can remember when they were 12k not so long ago!
Land Rover SIII at 3.5-4.5k looked very tidy for the money http://classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php...
Land Rover SI very well presented (it should be at this price!) http://classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php...
Lotus Eclat at 3.5-4.5k - not perfect, but not terrible either, good buy if it goes near estimate http://classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php...
Absolutely gorgeous Merc 280SE, too much for me at 45-55k, but seemed very proper albeit restored http://classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php...
Lagonda 16/80 special - seems a lot of pre-war car for the money. Needs light recommissioning but appears a very solid car. http://classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php...
Will be interesting to see what they go for tomorrow; Brightwells in past sales seem to have had some realistic sale prices....

This will be interesting, this is basically all there but could need several thou' spending on the recommissioning. Will be interesting to see what they go for tomorrow; Brightwells in past sales seem to have had some realistic sale prices...

Bid to £11,000 but not sold... Biggles111 said:
It looked interesting, in need of significant restoration. A couple of chaps were discussing it and seemed to think it was post war, I'm no expert on these though; went for a look at the Morgans.
I thought it would be nice to keep it as is, just made safe and reliable to drive. No chance of that though – Mrs Y refers to a near concours TR6 as 'your contraption' so fat chance of getting anywhere with the Jeep.Riley Blue said:

Is there a link to prices for lots already sold?
Not yet - they will probably update the catalogue with sold prices shortly. I see though that they are planning a server upgrade at 5pm, which may delay things....Some of the more modest cars failed to meet the low end of guide prices, it will be interesting to see what the sale rate was and final achieved prices. Not sure if this is due to the location/mid week nature of the auction, or perhaps some fizz slowly coming out of the market and guide prices/expectations needing to be adjusted slightly? Either way glad I was not there or I would have come home with several cars!
Some varied results
Lot 102 Land Rover SI unsold at £11k, definitely worth more
Lot 120 £9,500 plus buyer comm for the blue Jeep
Lot 123 £5,400 for the non-original SIII Land Rover seemed a good result for the vendor
Lot 115 Flat rad Morgan unsold at £13,500 - looked a nicely restored example, I would have left a bid if guide price had been set this low
Lot 146 F308GT4 was bid to I think £36k

Not 'arf!
Did you see how much the other s3 went for? Much more original, but scruffy. Made mine look like an absolute bargain!
Afraid not. Brightwells do also hold regular 4x4 auctions, so have a good buyer base for Land Rovers etc, looks a good place to sell one!Did you see how much the other s3 went for? Much more original, but scruffy. Made mine look like an absolute bargain!
