I have recently got into car trackdays but have been told that a full-face bike helmet is probably the best way to go as regards value for money and quality.

Can anyone suggest a decent make and model for use in various cars, anything from a low slung VX220 to a Big Renault is in the pipeline at the moment so it has to be practical.

Also, would it be better to buy during the bikers close season as it were when last year's helmets will be going cheap?

Any ideas and advice greatly appreciated,
Thanks

Old saying, if you've a £5 head buy a £5 helmet. Don't buy second hand, it may have had a severe bump!

Yeh I've heard that one before for sure. Will be buying a new one as my face is more important than my wallet

Any of the "branded names" should be OK. Most track days now insist on Bsi numbered lids, or whatever the relevant standard is?

As far as I can tell, they insist on Type A approval and kite mark approval on all helmets. I am going to head to my local motorbike dealer tomorrow and see what is available then buy it from an online retailer for a better price, hopefully!

If you are still around Leeds then head down to J&S Accessories. They usually have a good range of helmets at good prices. Try a bunch of different makes on because they all seem to favour slightly different shaped heads i.e. Arai felt really uncomfortable on me but Shoei was great and AGV somewhere inbetween.

I may be wrong but for track days make sure the helmet is ACU Approved. (someone will prob correct me on that)

I am home next weekend so will head down there and also pay a visit to Padgetts and Jordan near where I live!
