Speeding Fine in France - The 750 Motor Club
Discussion
Hi guys,
Has anyone got any experience of collecting one of the new heavy duty speeding fines in France, I'm just back from Le Mans and collected my first.
I'm sorry to say I am now a fully paid up member of what I believe is known as the "750 Motor Club", that is my punishment was a 750 Euro fine
I'm keen to hear from anyone in the "750 Motor Club" so I can understand the implications fully, you'll understand what I mean if you're in the club.
Thanks in advance, Dave

Lots of info here:http://www.750mc.co.uk/
I'm a member too. Paid my €750 deposit by the side of the road, gave them my licence, applied for a new one when I got home. Got a letter through from the French courts giving me back my licence, confirming the fine of €750 and telling me of a 3 month ban. That was that, pretty much.

My membership was only £60.
How did they catch you/stop you?

Sorry to hear that mate, how did you get it Dave? Was it radar trap or camera?
Cheers Mac, it was a radar trap mate
I wasn't even in 'Ol Gasbag', this time I was driving my mate's Lamborghini Galardo Syder which was having engine management issues, I did tell Le Plod I was trying the clear a lambda sensor fault but to be honest as an excuse it didn't go down that well

After some research it actually seems the French cops may have been kind to me, be warned just 50kph (31 mph) over the limit puts you firmly in the 750 club and according to Le Plod they recorded me at 202kph (125.5mph) in a 110 kph controlled zone, that puts me 92 kph over.
However I can confirm the speedo on the Lambo was reading 153mph and still climbing strongly when I glanced down at it (246kph) and flicked the paddle into 6th, the thing is apparently if you hit 220kph or above they have the right to impound the car so I think I got away lightly!!!
I still have no clear confirmation of my driving ban in France or when it's effective from but from what I've read the case will need to go to court first before the ban becomes effective. My French driving ban is likely to be either three or six months from the date the court processes the offense.
The interesting part is that apparently the 750 Euro I paid was actually just a deposit, it's not until the offense goes to court that I'll know for sure if the 750 was enough, indeed there are many cases reported where the court will apply a 1,000 Euro fine to drivers who paid their 750 Euro roadside deposit.
If this happens the court will send me a second bill for a further 250 Euros, if I do not pay this within 30 days they will start adding compound interest and an arrest warrant can be issued. None of this is a problem until I get pulled over again in France for say a minor traffic offense, at which point I'll be in big trouble..... so I'm strongly advised to pay the additional 250 immediately.
A lesson for us all, and an expensive one for me!
Dave.
I became a member in Chamonix, in 2013. I paid my 750E deposit and had an instant six-month ban in France. It took six months for them to sit my case upon which I got another six month ban and a fine of 728E, with costs of 22E.
They then sent a chaser letter for the money so I had to show them proof of payment.
I had the help of a PHer to read/write in French for me. He was also a member of the club.

I think you were very stupid and very lucky:Excès de vitesse supérieur ou égal à 50 km/h
- Amende forfaitaire de 1 500 euros
- Retrait de 6 points sur permis de conduire
- Suspension de 3 ans du permis de conduire (sans sursis ni « permis blanc »)
- Confiscation obligatoire du véhicule en cas de récidive
I am really surprised they did not take your license off you and make you continue your journey by other means, that is what happened to me.
Be aware if you are stupid enough to get caught again for >50kph the vehicle will be confiscated and there is the possibility of a prison sentence.

Good info chaps, thanks.
The cops confiscated my license and took a bunch of highly comical photos of them standing next to me sat all sad in the Lambo, they then marched me down the cash point for the 750. They explained if they didn't get their 750 they'd impound the car, the thing is if you're not carrying the required folding it can get tricky because there's a 300 Euro per day exaction limit in France.
I cobbled the dosh together, the other thing is it's basically an instant ban so I couldn't just hop back in the Gallardo and drive off, and as I didn't have a passenger I was a bit feked!!!
Luckily (if you can call it that) the owner of the Gallardo got nicked too, he was driving my other mate's 1967 Porsche 911 but he only got the 90 Euro on the spot fine so no ban, in the Porker as a passenger was my mate who owns the 911 so he drove his own car as did the Lambo owner, I became the passenger in the 911.
Le Plod were having a great time taking snaps of the Lambo, I think it was their biggest catch of the year.

The thing is the Gallardo was having engine management issues, I did tell Le Plod I was trying the clear a lambda sensor fault but to be honest as an excuse it didn't go down that well

No insurance issues when it goes to court, I hope?

To Victor Meldrew I say all I am doing here is warning others of what can happen, I take full responsibility for may actions and will be thinking twice next time, I have learned my lesson and I hope others read this and learn too.
We are all performance car enthusiasts and I doubt even Victor can hand on heart claim he drives everywhere under the speed limit at all times, be safe out there chaps.
