Hi folks

Can anyone recommend a car stereo head unit that works with Spotify seamlessly?

I currently have an Alpine iPod head unit but as I listen to all music through Spotify now rather than purchasing tracks like I used to, I'm stuck listening to old music! Time for an upgrade.

I use an iPhone 6 and ideally would like something that loads the playlists etc that are already linked to my Spotify account/available on my phone rather than having to search through the head unit for tracks. I'd also like to be able to control the music 100% from the head unit and not have to be picking up the phone to control it half the time...

If the system can also be used for nav then that would be even better as I can ditch the sat nav and the old iPod in one fell swoop!

Cheers!

If you want to completely control Spotify from the head unit, then I think an Android head unit might be the way to go. There are numerous Chinese options on eBay, but the Parrot Asteroid looks like a good option for a more well known manufacturer.

Alternatively, you could find a unit with Apple CarPlay - but that depends on your phone still. An Android head unit seems to tick all the boxes, and gives you navigation also.

Thanks both.

Does Apple car play not use Apple Music rather than Spotify, or does it support both?

Perhaps not quite to your requirements but I have Spotify on my phone with the music downloaded to, and I connect that to my head unit using the 3.5mm headphone jack. I have the phone on a mount next to the unit and control it through the phone. Not totally seamless but does the trick nicely.

Any headunit that supports Car Play will do spotify through the native app.

Any bluetooth head unit should work, my car has built in bluetooth and I just stream from my phone. I do when it works... disconnect and reconnect bluetooth solves most things. The cable method in my old car didn't let me control the music from the stereo which was a pain.

I have one of these:

It works nice for the most part, I use it for Spotify, Podcasts and Maps. It has a few too many Health & Safety messages and can be a little buggy but when it works it works well.

CarPlay will do either Apple music or Spotify.

You could also get a screen mirroring head unit which would allow you to control the Spotify on your phone through the display and leave your phone in your pocket.
