Heart says 991 and head says 991. No disrespect to that old red banger but just love the modern GT stuff.

Same for me - newer one every time and twice on Sundays.

If I had the money, I would love both biggrin

If I had to choose one as a do-everything car it would be the 991

I've not driven either but do agree that the latest 991RS does look a bit max power. I was gob smacked by the sheer physical size of it when I first saw one ay an OPC recently. A far cry from my once owned a 996RS.

Heart 964 Head 991!

PS You may recall (if your memory is not as bad as mine) we shared some good track day fun back in 2005 when we all had the then new 996RS's. Bedford, Goodwood, Donington, Spa were all fun times and having a dozen or so 996RS all out together was a memory I cherish. You gave me a few pointer's back then which I never got around to thanking you for, So ten years on. Thanks!

Jonathan.

Signal Yellow? Best colour on the 991RS in my opinion!

Absolutely stunning!

For me, if it is a choice been a hotrod and a factory car, it is factory all day long. But I would take a 997.2 RS over both.

Agree with this - neither is a 996 GT3 or RS smile
...so take the expensive one and sell to get a 6RS and 6GT3 for hard duty. Done!

A very good friends. It looks absolutely stunning in the flesh. Very impressive car and as a package to deliver sheer pace its the real deal. My heart says 964 though, and I think so does my head.

Johnathan, I do remember you. A fanastic time at Spa that year. The marque attracted some very like minded hard core drivers at the time.

Indeed Spa was great that year. I think we were there for two days or so and I recall far too many beers being consumed in the evenings...

It's difficult to compare as I've been out of Porsche's and track days for quite some time but it did seem that there were a good few handy wheel men driving their 996RS's at that time (Tim, Sean and other's who names I've now forgotten). It almost felt like a single marque series at times. This was in the days when we bought them and used them as their maker intended, I don't recall a single conversation about "flipping" or "overs" back then! Fun times.

To bring this full circle I am currently waiting for delivery of my new GT4 which will arrive in September, so you might see me on the odd track day in the future.

The 991 every time. The heart is naturally moved by the 964 but it's from a different century. Great to see now and then, would love to have one as an occasional nostalgic classic car spin in the country. But not in a million years would I take it 'instead of' that 991. For classic fans and collectors only. Give it to Singer though and that might be another matter. Maybe then you can have both. Then again, maybe Singers aren't all they're cracked up to be in the real world.

Heart says 964 C2, head says 991 RS.

But I'd sell both and take a 997 GT3 and a Caterham R360.

I think it is very much a question of what you want to do with the car. I drive a 991RS daily, and it is by far the most versatile RS I have driven. I can track it or drive in heavy traffic, throw it into auto around the city, paddle shift elsewhere. On a track it seems to have just endless grip and is way fast than the 7.2RS in the wet particularly. As others have said, ideally both, and I have an earlier car with manual when the itch appears, so I am OK.

Many many years ago I had a 911S ( It was just a used car then, not a classic),and it was a very engaging thing to drive.

Heart 964. Head 991.

I had a chance to drive a 991RS across town recently and was impressed by its ability to do the mundane stuff and yet still have a hefty racer feel to it. Didn't get a chance to push so it was just a fleeting impression but still had me scanning the classifieds afterwards and dreaming a bit.

My head and heart both say 991 - particularly in PTS.

I had a 964 once and I loved it but I now have a Maritime Blue RS and I think I love it more...

991 is too big.

If I wanted to go terribly fast I'd agree with some of the others - 996 GT whatever.

If I had to choose between the two here, 964 head heart ears nose eyes.....

Interesting thread .

I have to say , it's a tricky question - the obvious answer as others have said is both : although they share the same DNA , they are completely different things. So I guess if you had to choose one , you'd have to think carefully about what your end use is. I am a lucky bunny and have had the pleasure of the 991RS , the 997.2 RS and air cooled (inc 964) and if I could only keep one ............ it would be the 997.2 RS. For me it bridges the journey perfectly between old analogue and modern digital . I say this though without the true driving experience of some on here and this is in truth , it's just my view on what I like / use them for - bottom line though , is they are all good , just different .

Off at a tangent : what I just can't understand is why Porsche don't make all 911's feel like some type of GT3 - they always seem so good to me and cooking modern 911's so bland - I just don't get it , am I missing something ? smile
