It's the same game, Pokemon go was by all accounts a google April Fool prank, which someone then thought they could make money out of. Google owns the Ingress developer and bobs your uncle...lots of people hooked on some stupid game.

On the plus side the Darwin Awards should be a stiffer competition this year with people walking into/off/through things. Thinning the herd of the stupids is such a fun spectator sport lol.
