I've got about 30gigs of music on my iPod. Currently have the same amount on my Apple powerbook, which takes up half of the HDD space.

Is there a way to delete mp3s off my HDD but leave them on the iPod?

Currently whatever i delete off my Powerbook, the iPod syncs with it and deletes the respective mp3s off that too.

Hope that makes sense and thanks for any leads.

You need to change itunes to manul sync or playlist sync mode so it doesnt update when you plug your ipod in. To do this, plug your ipod in and click the ipod options button in the bottom right of the itunes window. Playlist sync will let you select one or more playlists that will remain in sync with your iPod instead of synchronizing your entire library. With manual sync you have to drag individual songs over to the ipod to update it. Hope this helps.

You need to use iPodRip having turned off auto synchronisation in iTunes.

Give me a minute and you'll have it!

alternatively assuming they're mp3s if you convert them all to aac which itunes will do for you, it'll probably drop to about 20 gig on each

Oh thats tempting. I do like having all my music on my laptop. I'll look into this further.

Cheers
