HI All
Just to say hello as I have finally bought the TVR that I drawled over years ago but ended up buying a Chimaera as my first TVR instead but within the next week this little baby will be mine, she is having new head gaskets and the heads skimmed so got to wait a week before she belongs to me along with my other 350 but that one is a "T350" no doubt I will be on here asking questions as I intend to get her as good as I can over the next 10 months ready for the next season, not seen her in the flesh yet but been sent loads of photos and a video so until I see her I am not 100% sure what I will do to her but on the cards is new carpets, new veneer to the dash, possible re-spray and the leather all cleaned up and treated so be prepared for lots of questions, I am so chuffed that I have the TVR that I loved all those years ago

Adam I think they will be like chalk and cheese, I love my T350 and spent close on £20k getting her how I want it and she is spot on for me, she will be used go track days and in the cold winter months but the 350i will be used for roof off driving in the summer months, looking forward to getting her and making a list of jobs to do 😉
Sometimes if you are too eager and don't go round all the bolts a quarter turn first, the last ones get stuck.
In which case stick them all back in and re-torque to 75% or so, then try the three stuck ones with a big breaker bar and a hex 16mm socket (don't use a 12-point, it will round off the heads).
I have a 3-foot iron pipe I use for this purpose ;^) It was a gas pipe once, then a fence, and now it lurks in the garage.
Also I cannot recommend Elring head gaskets too much - they are much stronger than the usual composite, and no more expensive - seven quid each.

Hi Adam
Thanks for your reply and I have been advised by number 7 about gaskets and forwarded on to Roger the guy I am the Wedge from and he is going to get them for me and show me invoice and photos of work done so I am happy and would rather wait to she is all good, also asked him to get camshaft etc checked for wear etc while engine in bits 😉

No point in changing it if the lobes are all OK - the front cover will have to come off - another source of seized bolts, plus you have to run it in at 2000 rpm for 10? minutes which means the head gaskets must not leak. Also the replacement must be a oood-un and not fail prematurely - these days that isn't guaranteed either.
My cam in the 400SX has lasted over 75k miles with regular oil changes and no idling after startup, that seems to be the secret.

Adam I totally agree that's why I have asked for photos of condition of camshaft before I agree, it just makes sense while engine having work done My cam in the 400SX has lasted over 75k miles with regular oil changes and no idling after startup, that seems to be the secret.

Well at last got her home with new head gaskets and water pump and drove like a dream from Liverpool in all sorts of traffic conditions and never missed a beat, fetling has started today and new wheels gone on and much prefer them to the SE edition but that is IMHO, looking forward to getting this old girl lovely
