Any suggestions? I'm doing lots of veg accompaniments and don't just want to put veg in the curry. I was thinking halloumi, but have only grilled or fried it before so I'm concerned it'll be too squeaky. scratchchin

Pulses, chick peas work particularly well. You could also try quorn if desperate!

i'd avoid halloumi due to the salt content. paneer is a better option and non squeaky.

sweet potato also works well

Good point about the salt. Doing chickpea fritters already. I'd discounted paneer because we're in rural Dorset... Sweet potato might be a goer.

Thanks.

You can make your own paneer really easily. Suzanne manages it, so it can't be that hard... wink

Otherwise, how about eggs?

Lots of meatless curries exist, shame we don't see them more often, usually they contain lentils or pulses.

Also checkout tofu and tempeh as direct substitutes to the fish, coat it in kelp powder, have a look for some recipes. smile

It's well worth exploring vegan options. They're typically natural, whole food recipes and often well worked out.
I'm eating far more vegan food these days as I find it nutritionally excellent (plus - not being a veggie/vegan I can add meat, fish and eggs when I feel like it).

Boiled eggs and cashew nuts work well in curries, possibly not together.

Mushrooms and cashews or peanuts. Roast them a bit first maybe.

Other thing I'd consider in lieu of tofu or paneer is making a rather dense plain egg omelette and then putting cubes of that in - similar texture, ability to soak up flavour, protein source etc.

In my experience (other half veggie) using quorn in a curry is a fairly safe bet. The quorn is fairly bland in itself, but it will take on flavour from a curry and does a respectable job.

Chickpeas and other stuff sound nicer to be honest, but in a pinch quorn in a lazy way of adding a meat substitute.

I can't see the point in Quorn, and I've been in the factory where they make the stuff. If you want meat, eat meat. If you want veg, eat veg. Veg are tasty and nutritious.

I'd use tofu, paneer, or (best IMO) chickpeas. The nut options sound good too.

Yep, the issue was that I had the recipe and spices for a Mauritian fish curry from spicery.com and one guest is veggie and the other isn't keen on fish. The paneer worked a treat and went well with the curry, tamarind rice, mazavaroo sauce, green bean rougaille, gateaux piment and chilli salt fruit.
