Dealing With The GF Family
Discussion
Twice this month I have had major fall outs with the GF family over situations regarding my children.
The first one involved an aunt taking my 19 month old to a cinema to watch a full length movie. I said she could not go as she is far to young and would get bored in the first 10 minutes, get distressed and be with people she only sees about once a month but the grandmother went mental and the entire side of her family claimed she would be fine and I was overreacting. I was told I was not welcome in her house!
The second involves a holiday to haven the grandmother wants to take in a couple of weeks. She is a huge fan of caravans (although her last haven holiday a few months ago resulted in her being terrified during a bar brawl) and thinks its a good place for my kids.
The venue they have chosen is Craig Tara in ayr and after reading reviews on trip advisior (read them) of gypsies, drugs, fighting, intimidation and in general channel 5 style action I decided to pop in to see if they were for real (its not far from the Open in Troon)
I was allowed in with no questions and it really is rough. Kids were running about like mental and the place is filthy
When I expressed concern I got told that i'm being to over protective and its a great place (the GF is supporting the decision to keep the gran happy)
Does everyone else suffer from the same grief

Dear god in laws. My Wifes Sister is a pathological liar. She has some personality disorder. Use to accuse her parents of abuse as a child, went to a "special" school for troubled teenagers and all that. Nothing but pure drama all the time and just lie after lie after lie. My Wife wants rid of her but is to kind hearted to do it. Though we are sick and tired of it all. We barely let her anywhere near our kids. Maybe 3 times a year at best.

It is this.
k off, your kids, not theirs. They can either involve your kids in things you say are acceptable, or they can f**k off.
A friend of mine had her mother give her 6mth old child a "sip" of coke the other day whilst out in the park. Yes, a six month old baby had a sip of coke.....I'd have gone f****ng mental if someone did that to my son.
Are you and the GF together? If not, then when she has the kids she can decide where they go and with whom. None of your business. When you have the kids she can't dictate to you where you take them and with whom.
If you're together, then it's her that's the problem, not them. They're her family, and she needs to tell them what they can and can't do.
If she supports their choice of venue as you say she does, there's not much you can do.

Taking a child that young to the cinema is inconsiderate not only of the child but the rest of the cinema. Not to mention acting like that when questioned. The holiday isn't that bad really as the child will be okay it's not old enough to venture out and start getting in street brawls, it's the family I would worry about.
I'm sorry but your OH's family sound like exactly the sort of scrotes I avoid.

Christ, you're a bit joyless. It's a sip of coke, not a line of coke. Lighten up.I'm sorry for the copy and paste but this review from Trip Advisor of the holiday place is hillarious.

"After reading the reviews I was really worried about visiting Haven in Ayr with other visitors posting about gypsy travellers, junkies and filthy grounds but I had my hand forced as my GF gran loves the place.
The best way to describe the centre to people who have not visited before is to imagine a refuge camp or Mexican prison and you would not be to far off.
The people resemble the sorts you see outside the job centre on a Monday morning, cheap tracksuits, argos gold chains and all a little overweight or using some sort of medical device like a ride on scooter or crutches (properly so they can claim disability)
The caravans are well spread out with some at the top of a hill that rivals Ben Nevis. I seen an old dear trying to climb the hill having to be rescued as she was flat out on the grass and breathless.
The entertainment complex is where the magic happens but make sure you wrap your kids up well, preferably with body armour as it gets rough at night. On my first visit I was walking past the snooker tables and there was 5 -6 kids intimidating a young boy telling him he had six minutes to finish his game or he would be beaten.
The Bongo club (I think this was named after the bong as you could smell organic mater all over the place) is straight out the 80's including a sticky tar like floor.
Children are free to roam around like wild animals and many do as their parents are most likely smashed on smuggled Buckfast.
Security is non existent and anyone can get in and out unchallenged.
Food was OK (typical microwaved fast food) but the tables could do with a clean (just like many of the staff)
On a plus note the slush is fantastic!"

At least it shouldn't rot their teeth at that age They can either involve your kids in things you say are acceptable, or they can f**k off.
