hi all, i am thinking of putting secondary de cat pipes on my 2013 plate AM. Has anybody done this, does it cause any problems like warranty issues or engine problems. what im looking for is a bit more sound without too much cost any power gains of course will be much appreciated.

Ive heard a car with them removed, and its a lot more noisy than just "a bit" smile

Personally too loud for me, but as its not so expensive (especially if you fit yourself) then its easy to try

The V8 I heard with decat was louder than war. Not "a bit more sound"...

I have secondary decat pipes and a sports back box on my 4.7 V8 and the sound is epic on acceleration - it is however quite civilised whilst cruising and there is no droning - best thing I ever did to this car smile

I replaced my system on a 4.7 some time ago. Manifolds and 200 cell cats. It was cool for about a day, then I realised it was waaay too loud. The novelty wore off quick and I couldn't live with how loud it was.
My advise, hear one and imagine living with it before you commit.

Earlier 4.7's did not have primary and secondary cats so the noise would be an order of magnitude more than one that maintains a set of cats. I had Appelby fit a centre muffler to dampen the noise. It brought the sound back to stock, which was not exactly what I wanted. So I took it to an exhaust fabricator locally who reduced some of the damping. I think it was designed to be used with a full system and back box which would be ridiculously loud. With a stock back box, the centre could be half the size and perform more than adequately.
I have see some Bamford cats that have little mufflers built on them. They look interesting and a lot more 'install friendly'. There were questions relating to stuff that needs to be done to fit that part there, namely a plate that needs removing. That was never resolved and I don't have the car now.
Suck it and see because there are a few options.

Hi All,
Ive had Velocity headers and the 200 cell cats fitted and kept the back box std.
Its loud enough!!!
A tunnel at 6500 revs is defening, but such a good noise. I cant imagine getting away with any more ?

Power wise the headers do make a noticable difference but the cats just seem to enhance the noise, still nice

Watch your sensors.mine used to trigger almost every month or so until DAE re prog. the ECU to get rid of them.

Hi all, thanks for all the info, the secondary cats on my v8 are just behind the primary cats and all the sensors therefore hopefully won't set off any engine management problems.
My concern was a thread I read, a v12 injesting it's primary cats and aston implied this was due to the secondary cat delete pipes that had been fitted resulting in engine failure! Humm any thoughts you guys.

Please dont say things like that!!! Especially when everyone goes weak at the knees at the sound wink

I believe the rare cat ingestion issue on V12's is due to the engine not running right - not deletion of the secondary cats that are way down the line on a V12. Mike BR has written about it here - overfuelling and misfueling causing unburnt fuel to hit the hot cats I believe.

Hope to still sleep well tonight smile

That's the set up on my later V8 - the sensors are in the primary cats and I've never had a problem with the ecu with straight through pipes in place of the secondary cats smile

Hi guys , thanks for the great feel back just a couple of questions. On removal of the cats im having problems getting them off dosnt seem to be anough room? Do i have to loosen off any other part of the system or does one side come off first. The studs on the header seem fixed so this gives you even less room.... Help
Also having completed this task does any body inform there insurance company of this mod, and if so how do you describe it to them and how much extra do you pay. smile
