Having been caught up in the Lowcostholidays saga last night, my family have all but managed to turn things round. However the last hurdle I suspect we might stumble on... My Dad paid for the holiday using his debit card (I know, I know!) and up until this morning thought all of our money had gone down the pot. That was until we were advised of the procedure mentioned in the title, whereby (as I understand it), your bank has a go at claiming your money back from the service providers bank, due to not receiving goods that have been paid for. All good and well would imagine if your sofa for example didn't arrive. With Lowcost going into administration, would this still be the case or will the bank have to deal with administrators, therefore not bother/ wait a hell of a long time until it has all been sorted out.
Thanks in advance for any help on this!

A chargeback is usually with reference to credit cards (jointly and severally liable/Section 75) - so one of us is mistaken!

If I'm mistaken and it works with debit cards then it might be a way to avoid going to law, but don't ATOL/ABTA deal with sort of thing?

Yep, the chargeback for debit cards isn't a legal process, it's more to do with the processes of the actual cards. The banks aren't legally obliged to help you out, but you can go to the financial ombudsman if unsuccessful to take it as far as possible. Unfortunately for us and everyone else involved Lowcost holidays weren't ABTA or ATOL registered as they were based in Spain. Hindsight and all that!
