It was a gorgeous night last night. I went out with the girlfriend last night just for the sake of it for about an hour! It was lovely, especially the bit when I accidently stumbled across a tunnel, (Well a wide bridge) and just had to stop to let oncoming traffic through. Didn't want to spend too long going through it of course and accidently use 1st gear for a bit too long...oops
the sound never gets boring!
the sound never gets boring!I had a similar drive Saturday night, gone midnight, motorway very quiet, cruising home with just me, the noise and a curtain kind of peace that goes with a sweet rumbling V8 and a clear road.
I think I'm actually addicted to driving, I do it for no reason other than to enjoy myself, all the time,
I changed the oil last week, I'm already 600 miles into the new stuff.
At this rate I might actually wear some tyres out

I must confess roof down driving on warm summers night is absolute driving nirvana for me, nothing betters it, I find a fast sweeping A or B road in the countryside is best while holding modest speeds between 50-60mph.
In the darkness with just the gauges and the road ahead illuminated all other senses are enhanced as I find myself completely tuned into the intoxicating smells of nature that surround me, it somehow makes me feel more alive. The still warm air also serves to create a unique acoustic condition that enhances the glorious V8 engine note, for some reason sounds just seem to travel differently on a warm night.
Once in the zone it's what I image flying a vintage plane into the night must feel like, I find the best place to experience all this is late at night winding through the Alps Maritime mountains above Nice after a really hot day.
Saying that on the right summers night on the right road you can certainly capture 90% of the feeling here in the UK, its just there are so few of this type of night in Old Blighty you've really got to take them when you can.
Only riding a motorcycle with an open face helmet on the same road on the same night betters the experience.
