Jaguar Mk.IX AKA MK9
Discussion
Hello all
I've been reading this forum with interest and was wondering if you guys might be able to help with a valuation on the above as there are very few around full sto (seemed to have been unloved until recently).
I have what i believe to be potentially one of the best examples in the UK. It was built in 1959 and shipped to Australia from new. It stayed there until around ten years ago when my father purchased it and shipped it back to the UK. As a result of being in a dry Oz state it's completely original underneath, it's never been welded which is almost unheard of for one of these. It has a good amount of history and i've recently spend £5k on a mechanical overhaul including suspension, brakes, fuel tanks, all fluids etc.
To get it 'perfect' it needs a paint job, the light cosmetic restoration that it has in Australia in 1990 was not the best paint job i've ever seen and being a perfectionist i'm planning on getting this done next. However, not knowing the value and knowing a good paint job on one of this will be circa £8k i'm trying to get an idea of values before i commit more expenditure to it.
It's a lovely car to drive, very tight and you feel like a character from Bonnie and Clyde when driving it! The classic 3.8 straight six Jag engine is pretty fruity as well. I'm planning on keeping it and just getting it perfect-as the years roll on there is less and less of them, especially unwelded ones with history and money being spend on upkeep.
So, values? Is there a resource for these that you can direct me to?

Mk 7/8/9s aren't exactly cheap, but they're not ludicrously expensive.I've been reading this forum with interest and was wondering if you guys might be able to help with a valuation on the above as there are very few around full sto (seemed to have been unloved until recently).

Something like this probably gives you a good comparison - http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C765383
But, if you're not planning on selling it, does the value (and how the cost of paint relates to it) matter that much? If you love it and want to keep it, but think it needs paint, then get the paint done, and enjoy it.
Yes, they are very 'regal' inside-i fail to see how back in the day a Rolls or Bentley was better in terms of cabin finish.
They are good looking cars, i can't see why they have been unloved upto now but it seems that interest in them is building. Great cars!
Regards the paint and cost, it's more the fact that if i did that then it would have been outlay of 13k in one year, if the car is only worth 20k then it's not worth while. If it's worth 50k then its a different matter.

Such lovely old barges, but barges that could pick up their skirts and go too. I remember with five up we were over the ton on the M69. I don't agree that the MkIX is better really; power steering and disc brakes made it more liveable and loveable but my MkVIII was converted to discs and stopped well. Here she is parked up outside of Sir William's home:-

As regards values, again it will also depend on whether it is an auto or manual overdrive. The latter has a rarity value and would be more valuable. Could you post some pictures to give us a visual idea of the condition?

It's a local shop here in France. The car stayed many years in their workshop. They worked on it as a spare time. I don't really remember, but it wasn't expensive compare to nowadays. This MkIX, an original french car, was originally black then white... I decided to go on Cornich Grey / Mist Grey.
