I agree 100%. Looks at my GTS in the garage and smiles.... biggrin

I do like the colour though.

Reviewers thus far have been almost universal in their condemnation of the engine with its loss of aural character. The F4T not giving you that spine-tingling, hairs on the back of the neck feeling derived from building the 981 nasp to full revs.

PH's Dan is the only one attempting to mount a reasonable defense of the move to F4T, with the fact that it gives you more of a Cayman more of the time.

Ownership will be interesting, and I'm sure the debate will rage on as people take delivery in the autumn. smile

Having driven both 718 Boxsters at Silverstone I found the exhaust note perfectly fine. Yes it is different from the flat 6 but it is certainly entertaining. Future generations will no doubt be hybrid and/or full electric and everyone will be bemoaning the lack of ANY exhuast noise. In my opinion we have lived through/are living through the last "golden age" of the combustion engine regrettably.

Subjective of course, but I too found the 718 Boxster S note to be fine on the 45 min test run I had. Of course this was around the congested streets of West London, so didn't get much chance to up the revs much beyond a brief blip down the M4 and back up a bit of dual carriageway. I certainly didn't feel the sound of it would in any way prevent me putting down the £3k downpayment on the 718 Cayman S.

Sound wasn't quite like anything else I've ever driven or owned that's for sure. It wasn't offensive, or sounding like the engine was broken as was reported by the Telegraph reviewer.

Not my words ...

As I said in my post, that's the position Dan takes in his PH Blog review of the 718 Cayman S as he mounts a defense of the F4T.

Watch from about 6:10 onwards to ascertain what he means by it.

I'm not sure I could live with the 718 so easily as my 981 2.7.

I don't need that mid range torque really, but I really do crave that F6 noise.

I feel the need for speed and at last we have a Cayman that delivers..it may sound ste but it is at last a variant that is not all show and no go....albeit it rather audibly inadequate.

Mine is coming in October and I cannot wait....ear mufflers on order.

And of course everywhere you go, your average day, is just like driving the 'Ring, right?
If that additional speed is what it's all about for you then you are clearly sorted.
I never considered the 981 Cayman as I knew I would always wish I'd gone the S. I got the S knowing the 718 was on the way and would be honed a tad more here and there, a slab of low down grunt, a bit faster and a few more frilly bits.
I've driven faster cars than my S. I had an R8 V10 Plus for a day. Lovely thing but it was no use to me on my local Essex country roads. The 981 though, I don't feel I need anything faster, makes a lovely noise when pressing on and... It makes a lovely noise when I'm not. The Cayman replaced my TTS, a car that was fast but no fun getting there. I got myself an 05 diesel Golf GT as my daily driver and I so do see the parallels in delivery between the turbo diesel and turbo petrol.
As effective as no doubt the 718 engines are at getting the job done, the faster ring time, 2 secs off the GT4 time, I'm unmoved. F6 sparkle and drama over the new F4T effectiveness and efficiency. All day long. 718 plus F6 though, hmmmmm.....

Leaving the 4 pot turbo engine to the side....imagine a cayman 718 stripped of 150kg, 18inch wheels, bucket seats and 5 shorter gear ratios (with a sixth gear that can do 80mph at a low RPM) Would be awesome!
