986 Cayman S or 986.2 Boxster 2.9?

Looking for a fun modern classic to add to the stable. Will only be used as a weekend toy.
I'm currently considering a 2006 Cayman 3.4 and a 2009 Boxster 2.9 which are both within my budget.
I read the 2.9 is a great drive with less weight and good power. But I feel the Cayman would be a better bet in terms of resale. I've already got a convertible, so not fixated on being able to drive with the roof down.
Any thoughts or ideas?

If you already have the softtop then plump for the Cayman. It really is a spectacular car. 987.2 will be better if you are going for an older car as the 987.1 has a couple of potential issues (IMS failure and bore scoring) but if you can find one that is sound then go for it! I had a gen 1 Cayman and decided to spend another £10k and get a low mileage gen 2 car. Quite why I didnt just keep the £10k and spend it if one of the issue arose I am not sure. I love the gen 2 car though so win-win!
My 2.9 Cayman is going up for sale soon, 2009 with 24k miles and 18 months Porsche warranty remaining, PM me if interested.
I am obviously biased but the 2.9 is a great engine and loves to rev and allows you to sleep at night. While I suspect the gen 1 fears are overstated, I didn't want that worry in the back of my mind. Fine if it is cheap enough or covered by a Porsche warranty, but they are harder to find. Maybe it's my risk adverse character, but I paid more for piece of mind knowing that I'd get most of it back on resale.

I'm in New Zealand and sadly the selection on the market is very thin. Cayman 2.9 sounds like a good option but I don't think many, if any, were sold new here.
So in terms of reliability the Box 2.9 will be a better bet? I've got an R107 SL and a Alfasud Sprint which already tie up enough money in maintenance...

A friend keeps reminding me that for the same money I could also get an early 996 tiptronic, but assume that would be even worse in terms of running costs.
