Has anyone else noticed this?
Somedays when I start my car it takes a couple of goes (cuts out and needs re-starting etc.)and it always seems thereafter that car is grumpy at low revs low speeds. Lots of misfiring and driveline shunt as I try to maintain a steady 30/40/50 MPH at about 1800-2000rpm. A real pain to drive and always has me thinking about aftermarket ECUs.
Other days it fires up straight away and feels 'happy'. It will then drone along noisily at 30/40/50 MPH with only the slightest of misses and is a joy to drive at these speeds.
I can't figure out why this is, unless the MBE ecu has some kind of 'good day/bad day' function. Anyone else know about this?

I will watch with interest! Yesterday the car was awful at low speeds, yet today is fine, so it just annoys me that sometimes its ok and sometimes its not. If it always ran like it did today, I wouldn't worry about a re-map
My car had been getting slowly less well behaved as you say. Loads of shunt and very bad manners around town. I too was thinking about a remap. I think the changes in behaviour crept up on me as it's just being serviced and it looks like a shattered cat and a crack in the exhaust manifold just ahead of the lambda sensor are to blame. Cat has been replaced and manifold crack welded up plus changed the throttle pot on the same bank just incase. I pick the car up tomorrow so if it's back to it's old ways of smooth driving in all conditions I'll let you know. The above issues seem very viable reason for shoddy running to me.

Hmmm, interesting. I suspect my one remaining cat (the other one is empty....)may have become blocked. I'm looking into exhaust options at the moment. Hope your car goes better after the service.
My manifolds are good, as I had new 4.5 ones fitted last year.
However, as my slightly whimsical first post says, all this not withstanding, some days its noticably 'happier' than others. So I'm not talking a slow degredation here, just some days are better than others - which seems a bit odd (maybe its just character

Just thought if you've got one good cat and one cat empty then the car will surely run badly. I figure it's got to be nigh on impossible to set the car up like that?
Well, when I burnt my cat out last year I did question the wisdom of scooping out the innards and welding it shut, but was told it wouldn't really matter (and most of the time it doesn't really seem to - the good day/bad day behaviour was there before). I have intended to sort this out before now, but you know these things go....I know that presenting the exhaust gas with a change in section will have an effect.
Anyway, I did have the car up on a ramp last week, trying to see if my shiny new Flowmaster silencers will fit (they won't) and saw that my exhaust is not too good. A few small cracks, the sports tailpipes showing corrosion etc. So I'd like to sort this out before I contemplate remaps. The local place I took it to has an ex-Janspeed employee who said a full system in 304 stainless including high-flow cats would be about £900. Now I have the price of the deluxe option, I'm just seeing what else I can do.
