well, sort of... (a cheap device that innit? i dont know why but im always secretly dissapointed that these kind of posts arent actually about aeomebic dysentery/ clog dancing welsh style/ witchety grub salad recipes as they say there gonna be.. perhaps its true what they say about me). so then..
im utterly bored with my 40 mph headlamps on my 170mph supercar, and even though ive uprated the bulbs to a pair of the phillips ones y'all recommend, its still pretty woeful. remember gang, where i live we dont have elec-trickery (in fact my neighbours still come out and look for the minstrels whenever i have my radio on). so, ive gorn and got meself a pair of small driving light thingies, ala max power stylee (as i beleive those crazy kids say). i FULLY intend to hide them up out of sight in the mouth of the beast as i dont much care for the 'crashed through the window of halfords and everything stuck' look, so please no posts about how sad i am. these are for FUNCTION only. no really, its very dark out here.
so, what im wondering is, bearing in mind that my wiring on my Tee-Vee-Arr is most likeley made from liquorice laces, should i run a dedicated line straight to the battery and put a unique switch in the cabin for them, or will i be okay to wire them into the full beam circuit, without fear of meltdown? if so, where do i wanna attach them (wiring wise obviously, please, try and keep it clean people, there could be children watching).
any help would be appreciated, many thanks,
Max P.

I'm still getting around to finishing a little project to upgrade the headlight wiring on my Cerbera (old-skool headlights).
The reflectors were corroded, so new ones made quite a difference. I'm taking an electrical feed from the battery to a couple of relays that I've installed at the front of the engine bay. These relays will then switch the feed from the battery to the lights, through new wiring. The original headlight wiring will be used to switch the relays only.
I did this on my old TVR and the lights were much brighter than the Cerbera.
I've also bought some PIAA bulbs to try.
Of course, I'm still wondering when I'll get round to doing this, it was meant to be a before-the-winter project

'ere ya go the Nervous me ol' mate........
Fix lamps in discreet location.
Take wire from main beam feed to existing headlights (one side will do) to terminal on relay.
Take one wire from relay to new spotlights.
Take wire from earth of new lights and, erm earth it.
Take fused wire from live side of battery to relay.
Wait til it gets dark and bingo! driving lights on with main beam and off with dip (as what the law permits)

genius, i really dont know how you do it for the money!!
thanks mate, greatly appreciated. do i need to uprate the fuse or anything? (all i can remember from electronics lessons was that a relay acts as a 'latch')(i was too busy manufacturing papier mache willies to frighten sarah wallis).
im guessing that the latch prevents me from the tangy aroma of melting wires?
really TS, youre a genius. tell you what, since its you, im gonna box up my missus and send her on to you. free of charge, gratis and buck-shee. enjoy.

Whilst the offer of your Mrs is, quite obviously a gesture of extreme generosity on your part, I really couldn't accept because I currently have my own hands full with my own and 15 month old terror weapon known as Joe. Alas this leaves me with much fatigue and therefore would be unable to do her justice, however my cousin who live in Nigeria would like to offer you the chance to purchase............
Back to the lights, the relay keeps all the heavy amperage in the closed loop between the new lights and battery (not all that technical), therefore the frying of Cerb wiring will not be a burden to you. Just make sure you use a heavy enough gauge wire for the spotlights, otherwise you might well fry that. No uprating of existing fuses is required, but you must have a fusible link between the battery and the relay to protect the spotlights.
Ahhh the nostalgia of a misspent youth and a Vauxhall Viva.

will do simon, toug im hoping that with my new slammin-pimped look, youll be able to spot my er... blob ass from there. whatever that means. laters, peace out etc. (we actually heard a girl say that in a cafe in rome once and i shot salad through my nose)(a neat trick if yu can do iT) ( i belong in a circus reallY)

ok gang, todays the day. and its a big one. today i will be mostly A) fitting the above mentioned super-gay looking spotlights (not that theres anything wrong with that) B) replacing my front indicator jammie dodgers with some clear(er) ones and C) having surgery on both my arms to undoooo the damage each '5 minute job' is gonna inflict, whilst D) listening to Terry Wogan on Radio 2 (am i hardcore or wot?).
so then quick question, when TS referred to taking a feed from the main beam, does he mean at the module bit in the boot, or from the actual plug that attaches to the back of the bulb in the pittifully small 'access hole'? if so, how do i know which wire to attach it too? wont my super gay spotlights (not that theres anything wrong with that) be on whenever normal headlights are on, as opposed to whenever i put on high beam?
caaarrrrn people talk to me, i wanna get outside and get bloody and frustrated...
ta muchly,

From the back of the headlight!
There's three wires going to the headlight, live main beam (the one you want), live dipped beam, and earth.
If my memory serves me correctly the connector is like an upside down 'U' with the main beam live being on the left hand side. Check the colour of this wire and you can junction it from the inner wing (much easier!) instead of feeding it from the inside of your wing. Whichever side you take the feed from should be the one closest to where you mount the relay (battery side would be good).
If all else fails, email me your mobile number and I'll talk you through it.
