Can I choose my dealer?

I remember a few years ago ( mid 90's) it used to be the practice at TVR that if you ordered from a dealer who was not near you, that the factory would transfer the order to your local dealer based on postcode. This was initally to prevent discounting on the cars.

Is this practice still in place or are purchasers now free ( so to speak) to go whereever they like?

I appreciate that most purchasers want freedom of choice, but I was wondering if this was supported by the factory.

Nope, in fact under block exemption ruling it is now illegal for the manufacturer to decline warranty claims if the car is not serviced within the manufacturers dealer network.

All OEM parts have to be used, the schedule has to be followed but as long as the person doing the job is competent then they cannot refuse claims if it has been regularly serviced to schedule by a specialist.

While its your choice where you go, I suspect that warranty work at your local dealer (if the car came from elsewhere) will be on these lines. "It may be 2 or 3 months before we fit it in". When they are busy with servicing, similarly, I suspect you'll be last on the list of peolpe they'll try to fit in.

And why not? Why should they do the warranty work at less than attractive rates when someone else has had the profit from the new car? Why should they do anything else but show favoritism to loyal custom?

Supsect thats not illegal, but it may influence your choice.
