Hi all,

I'm wondering if you can help, I'm still suffering from the common issue of squeaky brakes. The problem seems to be intermittent but is incredibly annoying when it happens.

I've tried the suggestion of slamming the brakes on, but the problem reoccurs. I'm not massively mechanically savvy, but was wondering if there was anything I could do to remedy the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Before I went to CCM brakes, I was going to try this stuff - https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/brakes/bg-stop-sque...
Never got round to it. Yank forums had good things to say about it.

Is it intermittent - and more prominent when you are moving in slow traffic? That being the case you have the classic issue of hand brake squeal! I used to get this on my 2006 V8 Vanatge and one solution was to give the hand brake pads a bit of bedding in by pulling up on the handbrake at quite a speed to clear some of the dirt and dust off them. Used to clear it for a while!

I also think there is a service pack for this issue, however it does appear to one of the many characteristics of the Vantage!

I've had it since I bought mine just over a year ago. It is pretty irritating - however, I haven't tried the handbrake turn solution so I'll give that a go next time I use it! smile

At speed? Won't you just either lock the rear wheels, or, shred the pads as they lock on?

Never had that issue - just a good old pull on the hand brake lever and yes it retards tohe speed a little but to be honest they are not powerful enough to slow the car down. It just glazes the pads a little - it was a suggestion from an indie.

My preferred handbrake method is to do it whilst at <5mph.

Once every six months will keep everything in check - unless you have a more serious issue.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it at slow speed.

Is the general consensus that it is a hand brake issue?

Yes, I'm pretty sure mine is.

Ironically, I used my vantage yesterday and remembered this thread as I was pulling up to some lights. But I had the windows open, listened carefully and the damn thing was silent yesterday!

Nice tip, thanks. My V8V has been doing the same thing. Very irritating.
