My V8V did exacty the same thing, very common I seem to remember, it's the prop shaft (I think it's called that anyway). No need to panic at all, nothing dangerous or expensive, although I just accepted mine as being part of the character. Someone will be along soon with more technical knowledge. In the meantime Humphrey, have a beer and relax.

All Vantages are "born" manual. Half way down the production line some are selected to go through the stabiliser process which like learning to ride a bike, Aston fit SS. What you heard will be the remnants of the correct gearbox accidently left in the housing. Not to worry, its a reminder for you to move on to a stabilizer-less manual version!
