Still ill from holiday in 2014?

In September 2014 we went to Tunisia to a hotel we'd been to many times before. There was obviously some cleanliness issues in one of the restaurants as they shut it for a few days. Shortly after this both myself and my OH became quite ill - sickness and diarrhoea. We went to the chemist, got some medication which seemed to do the trick and we were largely ok within a few days. About 6 weeks after returning my OH starting vomiting every 15 minutes or so. She couldn't keep anything down, even water. We went to A&E and they kept her in for a day. We told them about Tunisia so I presume they tested for related conditions. All was well until about June last year when my OH had another episode again resulting in a few days in hospital. Again tests were done but nothing was found. And then last weekend she had the same again. We didn't go to hospital this time but the symptoms were exactly the same.

Seems to be too much of a coincidence that this all started not long after returning from a country known for health issues.

Obviously she'll be making an appointment with her own GP but has anybody else suffered anything similar? If so, did you find a cause?

I have had those same symptoms numerous times through my life but have never been to Tunisia.

given how infrequent the episodes are, it could just be viral gastroenteritis, and unrelated to Tunisia. It seems unlikely that something more worrying / sinister would give you 12 months of symptom-free time in-between attacks. If you are concerned, then talk to your GP, they may undertake some simple blood tests to exclude common problems.

A bit late to reply to this,but your symptoms are similar to those of a friend where the problem turned out to be a tapeworm probably from infected pork. Eventually several feet of this parasite were removed from her insides. If you can face it have a rake through your poop looking for bits of the thing. She had all sorts of tests with nothing showing up. Only when abroad in a hot place where this parasite is common, was the problem immediately recognised. Google Tapeworm infection and see if anything matches. Don't panic.
