Eg My Protein as a brand etc. I don’t want to gain or lose weight. I went to Holland and Barrett in St Pauls, London and was none the wiser. They all seem to be for going to the gym or for weight loss. I just wanted to buy a small packet of one to try, but they were all in these large tubs for about £45-ish.

Can someone please give me some tips on what I should try, also which tastes the nicest?

Many thanks

Why do you want to take them?

They're not for meal replacement, they're meant to be supplementary to your normal intake to increase calories.

A guy I worked with used to almost live off them.

Buy ready to drink ones then. Most supermarkets sell Maxinutrition/For Goodness Shakes/Sci-Mx Pro 2Go etc.

Meal replacement shakes will be lower in calories than a typical meal so your weight will probably go down if they are just a straight swap in.

Do you have some sort of blender? You could then add ingredients (peanut butter, spinach, chia seeds, greek yoghurt...) to whey protein powder to create your own meal replacement shake.

Not really sure what you want to know. Meal Replacement Shakes like Slim Fast are for weight loss, they have a mix of carbs, protein etc and are fortified with some vitamins and iron. They are meant for people who want to lose weight without counting calories or having to think about it. They are generally ste.

Otherwise there are protein shakes. As said above these are for getting additional protein for athletes and gym goers who need lots of protein and don't want to eat 5 chicken breasts a day.

What do you actually want from them? To skip making a meal and drink it? There are those wheatbix on the go bottles, they are probably full of sugar and st but will have some added vitamins and minerals and a carb/protein mix.

If you don't want to gain or lose weight, they're a pointless waste of money.

You're right, but huel is st.

OP whats wrong with eating a 17p oat bar and 23p worth of peanut butter with a glass of water?

Thats a nutritious and satisfying small meal for 40p that requires no prep other than a glass of water/tap and a spoon/finger/fork

edit: you could even dip the oat bar in the peanut butter if zero fks are given.

Most of the online places do sample sachets of their products.

Soylent indeed. I make my own, actually don't use it that much but in theory you can sustain yourself for a couple of quid a day..

Taste wise, Gold Standard is the best tasting whey protein I have tasted. Shop around for it though as prices vary hugely, Tesco for example charge £32.99 for 908g when its only £22 on Amazon.

MyProtein are much cheaper but nowhere near as nice, same as all their other supplements really.

I always used to have ON gold standard but have since changed to Genetic Supplements. Slightly higher priced but tastes nicer and the nutritional information is better

Why do you need to replace a meal? if its for convenience, Id say your better with nuts, boiled eggs, yoghurt, fruit or similar.

He wants a MRP rather than a quick digested protein. Most of the top brands will do something with oat powder for the carb element nowadays.

I use this...

http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/prec...

Frozen fruit, a scoop full of this, and almond milk makes a great smoothie. I don't feel like I have spent an hour and a half in the all you can eat Chinese and obviously the fruit has an impact, but I am not hungry for a while afterwards. Even if nothing else it tastes better than the chocolate powder I was using before.

It is £42 which is ridiculous, but is normally half price or in the 1p sale

I get my shakes from here http://www.theproteinworks.com/ they have some really nice flavours that you don't seem to get from other brands. They also do different snacks.
