Guinness World Records
Discussion
I always used to buy the annual at xmas time but over the years its just getting out of hand.
World records used to be amazing with people doing things that risked their life or took a lifetime to train for or were just naturally unusual. There were things that you had never seen before and also some silly stuff thrown in.
Now it seems any one can get one, a local group is getting together the largest group of people dressed a elephants, WTF is that all about. I might go out and get the record the longest someone has stared at a pencil.
Can I just phone up Guinness and register for one?
Obviously if you have one share the story but only if its something amazing.

You can register online.
They will then decide if it is worthy of an addition to the list. They've stopped a lot of those considered "dangerous" buy anyone amateur, so no more "how many razor blades can I put up my nose" type thing.
I think I had the 1993 book. Probably still do somewhere at my parent's house. I used to absolutely love it - it was pretty much a big list of things, thousands of things. But now it seems to have been dumbed down quite a lot to a children's book.

My son was recently asking me about how you go about attempting a record.
He recently found a really long blade of grass and asked me if he could enter it for a record (he's 9), I told him why not however it may be a short lived record which got me thinking,...............
Is there a record for the shortest time that a record has been held?

I would say yes, on the telly 2 people were competing to brake a record. Both broke the record with only a second init. They gave it to the first guy and then took it off him when the other guys time was read out. He had the record for about 20 seconds. He recently found a really long blade of grass and asked me if he could enter it for a record (he's 9), I told him why not however it may be a short lived record which got me thinking,...............

I've got a Guinness World Record. It's for the largest group dancing to 'Big Fish, Little Fish' at any one time. Given that Guinness are now doing corporate stuff where they come along and pretty much guarantee that you'll get a record then it's not that tricky. I think we had something like 4 tasks that we worked on in small groups and the best group got a shot at the title. One task was passing tennis balls, one was rolling potatoes with our noses and I don't recall the other one but we failed miserably at all of them so ended up with the surefire winner of the group dance.

I used to get the book every Christmas when a kid but that stopped. New bough me one last year though which you can use with an app for 3d.
Reminds me of a time I was on holiday in Mexico out chilling in the warm sea and got chatting to a bloke and his wife, after a while he comes out with I've got an unofficial record something to do with my body can you guess. I couldn't so he stand up and shows me his chest hair. Oh my friggin god, 11 inch long grey chest hair, he said it hits 12-14 inches at times and record is 9ish from memory. Sadly when he phoned up it was no worth the cost.
