I had my 95 500 measured at Powers a little while back and got 240 bhp and 295 torque, about 280 of that from 2500rpm, if I replace with a standard or non standard can will I feel the differance?, I am mainly after lazy low down power, ie a kick in the back with high gear low rpm rather than high Rev stuff, any thoughts, the engine has done 74k and I believe it is original, but runs very nicely even at low rpm stuff.

IIRC Powers measure BHP at the wheels, do you have the graph? If I am correct (Classichimi can confirm or deny), then at 18% drivetrain loss that would equate to 293bhp and around 340torques at the flywheel.

If the car runs fine that is good power for a standard 500, so nothing to do.

Leave it alone if its making 240 that's a very healthy 4.0 motor wink spend your money elsewhere for your outlay gains will be small even going for stump puller profile
But the OP clearly states he has a 500 confused

But the guy testing said that about 280bhp would be original, if I could get back to that would I feel a suitable differance?, how long would you leave it before replacing?

Guys, we need to know if it is 240at the fly or wheels. The last Powers graph I saw was bhp at the wheels.

Just had my cam done by TVR Power, the difference is amazing the car pulls through the rev range and will potter round town in 5th. When Dom took out the engine he found the cam bearings, clutch and oil pump gears were worn so changed them at the same time for not much more labour.

Surprised he needed to remove the engine to change the cam - was there other work done too?
Mind you, it doesn't take an expert long to take the engine out.....

Surprised me too but apparently its easier and it would have had to come out anyway to replace the bearings.

I am away from home at the moment so I can't show you the graph, I was hoping someone would now the measurement powers used, it's on a rolling road and measured at the wheels, the guy was god, he guessed 245bhp with my miles, so a very good educated guess.
I hope you guys got some sense from the phone company call centres, I never do😀
Graze, did you measure yours before and after?, if so do you have any data?

No, i did a rolling road session about 5 years ago and was getting 285BHP which I am told was good. I will probably get another session if she doesn't sell.

Everyone except Powers quotes power at the fly. Powers quotes power at the wheels, which is 15-18% lower.
Mine, with further mods, gets 315bhp at the fly, which at 18% drivetrain loss is 258 bhp at the wheels.....

See what I mean?

Paul, you gave said 240 at the wheels, please just confirm that it IS at the wheels, then we can tell you it's pretty good.

Ps, after an hour, mainly on hold, I got a £428 refund out of BT. 3.5 years of a redirection service they had set up, redirecting my calls from my old home number to an unconnected number that wasn't mine.

Hi QBee, how do I confirm at the wheels, it was done at powers on the rolling road, the print out doesn't give much extra info as far as I remember, but it seems too close to what you have after calculating and I know you have spent some money on yours, I will try and call them tomortow to check.

As you say, quick call to the guy who does the mapping/RR stuff.

I believe you need to speak to Jason, he was the bloke at Powers that mapped mine and yes all measures are at the wheels, 399.8 in my case but it was still a tight engine so I am hoping now it has freed up a bit it would find the extra 0.2;-)

Hi Guys, i can confirm after talking with Dom at Powers that the 240 is at the wheels, does that mean i dont have so much to gain with just a cam?, Dom will get back to me with some options after checking my graph, but just curious as to what you guys think
