Will you please confirm that keeping the car unlocked will lessen the drainage on the battery and if so why ?
Car kept in secure garage.
Thanks

Stephen, I'd imagine it's something to do with isolating the alarm and immobiliser, although I'm unsure as to what residual current they draw. Hopefully someone with expert electrical knowledge will be on soon.

What would the insurance implications be?

Good point,
The car is kept in a secure garage, behind another car which is locked and alarmed.

The claim form won't ask that. It will ask if there are any signs of a forced entry wink

If you're looking to save on battery power, perhaps cut back on the volume of inflatables you use in the car? biggrin

l
Forced entry.....now that's a subject I have experience of.
Leave my inflatables out if this.....very handy in times of stress.

I'm sure I've read on here that it's the other way 'round. Leaving the car unlocked leaves some of the techy computer bits active which drains the battery, with them only fully shutting down when the car is locked.

Keep it locked and on a trickle charger.

i can never understand one of these battery threads ....my car is 10YO and I've owned it for 6 years ...as far as I know its on the original battery. Until yesterday I hadn't started the car for over a month ( its residing at my parents at the moment due to a big building project at home so don't get much opportunity to drive it ) and it fired up immediately ..........am I just lucky ?

I leave mine for 2 weeks ,3 at a push and it's been ok.
But I'm concerned by the horror stories I've read if battery dies.
So bloody useless at those things I might have to sell the car.
