Losing power

Hi, I would be grateful for any advice you could give. Over the past week my Chim has started losing power when accelerating and even when cruising. Power goes off and back on quite violently, almost as if cutting out, rather than missing. I plan to start with the usual ignition & fuelling etc but any pointers as to common problems so I check these areas first?
