My car is due an annual service and the warranty expired in June.

Annual service from a dealer is £1k and independent is £500.

Does going to an independent make any difference to the values?

I have been to the dealers before and have been disappointed at their lack of care and attention. I am not going to mention names but I know I would feel more confident going to an independent.

With my old Ferrari 360 it made no difference at all. But then again it was 6 years old when I bought it.

Personally on a 3 yr old car I think the main dealer stamp is worth the £500 extra.

The majority of people IMHO would prefer to see the manufacturer stamp.
Yes an independent might be cheaper and better but only car enthusiasts would accept this argument so therefore you may limit your market come resale.

I still take my 20 year old F355 to the main dealer religiously

Practically speaking, an independent is as good, or as bad, as a main dealer. My 4 year old Lp550 had the brake calipers and insides of the wheels trashed when I bought it. There's only one place that could happen and that's during the services when the monkeys bounce the wheels off the calipers as they remove them. It had been serviced by main dealer Lamborghini throughout.

So from my point of view, if I'm buying a car, as long as it has been serviced, indy or main, it's fine by me.

So, it'd never had new tyres fitted? Or a roadside puncture? Or a previous owner removing the wheels themselves for cleaning?

If it a low mileage special you are collecting, then main dealer...

Otherwise, a reputable indie way to go... But has to be a good indie, not the local chappie down the road.... Unless u are selling next week

Also, they came with a four year factory warranty after 2010 as standard... So if u are in warranty still take to main dealer... As small annual would be third or fifth service..

just had my car serviced by London service centre..... very happy with service delivered, even got to choose my mechanic....!!

price was steep imho but being only year 2 and in warranty, no choice really.... what I have noticed is that schedule for lp is different for pre-lp.... pre-lp was minor, interim, minor, 4 year, minor, 6 year and so on... lp seems to be minor, major, major, major!!!! c'est la vie.
