Humm, 3D printer anyone.
Could be a solution...I have searched for years and i mean years to find the original fitment...The Mazda MX5 mk1...Porsche 944...924 are similar but do not have the ribbed top...I was extremely lucky to have a friend in Australia who made me this...At a cost obviously...Im toying with hydro-graphics but the old style ashtrays are vulnerable to breaking when the top is removed...
Guess glueing is the only solution for the originals....(I need a 3D printer)
I started to look at making one from my good one. started to look around 150-200 just to get a decent one made but no idea on how to take it further to get the cost down.
What I assumed is would have to do, first make a good mould from the original. Now a diy kit for a mould around £80 odd quid (a few years ago). Then the materials to make the carbon fibre part from that mould, the carbon fibre option seemed a bit wrong somehow. Not the finish, but more I was making a fibre glass part that looked like something not a baked carbon fibre option.
Life then got in my way and it went on the back burner. At the time my oven was also none to reliable (yes, I considered that)
This was before 3D printer ology.
Not looked back at it for a year or so.
Now en, who can knock one out of a a billet?

If I had a bust ash try I'd just spend a tenner on one of these......simples http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-944-924-924S-ASHTR...
No ribs but frankly should we be bothered?
Or use one of the many Porsche phone holder options https://www.germanautosolutions.com/porsche_soluti...

Nothing against smokers or anything like that, but I tend to leave out the cig lighter and ashtray(s) if I'm retrimming as it's less hassle, and a foam block often works for the clip-in ashtrays (eg early wedge doors).
The cig lighter hole can become an extra switch if you have a use for it (like a manual engine fan).
Unless of course you want to stick entirely original, which can be the hard road !
Just my 2c worth ....

DMC in the US will even sell you a new one... but you'd better be sitting down when they tell you how much.
