Hi folks, does anyone have any experience of the MSD 6AL? I've a 450 chim that I wish to simply improve its performance and drivability and it's been highly recommend to me.....not from a supplier I hasten to add!

I've got one sitting under the bench somewhere.
Worked fine on my Chevy V8.
Probably best you also buy MSD leads and a 'Blaster' coil to make a decent package as there is not much point having a 6AL without the leads and coil to support the extra performance.

I wouldn't bother

if you want to upgrade the ignition go for something with a 3d / load input like megajolt

So ditching the disi? Is that system what they refer to as a wasted spark?

Do you run one?

You really need to ask what you are trying to improve. The standard system will provide a perfectly good spark to ignite the mixture, and putting something that provides a "bigger" spark wont make a bind bit of difference- after all if you ignite petrol with a match or flame thrower the result is still the same. The only things you can gain is using some sort of mappable system and then spend many hours tweaking the timing on a rolling road, or by using wasted spark you get rid of the dizzy and rotor arm as failure points, but to be honest you would be better off replacing the whole ECU and ignition in one go, as ignition timing and fuelling work hand in hand, so its better to have one unit controlling the lot.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not looking for anything other than making any cost effective improvements to power delivery.
I'm not chasing HP, but it sounds like it's might be an all or nothing upgrade ie. Go whole hog or not bother at all.
