High Mileage, a question to the PH Floor

So here is a question to the floor,

Would a high (ish) mileage on a TVR put you off? I know of early 4.2 Cerbera with over 60k on the clock and still going very strong with only the routine servicing carried out, and the occasional slave cylinder

So if you were looking would it put you off?

I guess it all depends on the asking price, but no, a 60k car wouldn't be an instant turn off.

Like most Tivs, the Cerbs like to be used, and you may even be better off buying a fairly well used car, as opposed to one that's sat still in a garage for a number of years.

I'm sure that someone who actually knows what they're talking about wil be along soon though...

Mine had 57k when i sold it & i'd have been happy to keep it for a lot longer, though it had a complete engine rebuild & new clutch fitted.

Mileage is no problem as long as it's been well looked after.

Engines & clutches are where the big expenses lie, but it does seem a lottery as to weather you get bit or not.

If there is no history to confirm engine work, clutch or suspension refurb, then prepare for the worst.

Isn't there a cerb thats done over 100k. Might be Simonsparrows.

They tend to be more reliable if they are used more.

Yep, 105k so far. Original engine and clatter cams. I'm sure it'll go pop at some stage, but until then I'll keep driving it. Just did another track day at Bedford on the weekend.

My car had 82k on it when I bought it in may 2003. I've since done another 25k miles on top of that (speedo freaks out every 10k, hence the discrepancy).

I hope it carries on for a few more miles yet!

My first TVR was a 1976 3000M that had over 70k miles on it when I sold it. I did 16k miles in one year and while a had a few problems with it, they were mainly down to it not being driven on a regular basis before I got it.

Its still going strong in the hands of its new owner.

Mileage would definitely not put me off.

A high mileage newer car with a full service history is likely to be in better shape an older one with low mileage. I use mine everyday and it doesn’t seem to get half the problems suffered by friends’ TVRs that are only used occasionally.

My 350SX has over 70,000 miles, I've done 46,000 in a 4 ltr Griff, 114,000 in three Griff 500's (and only 7,000 in one of them) and my lst Cerb went at 57,000 miles and was running brilliantly. The more you use 'em the better they are!

I did 43,000 miles in 18 months in one of my Chimaeras, no problem. I'm sure the next owner got a real bargain.
