Mountain bike XC wheels

Hi all,

After some suggestions or opinions please. Rear wheel of canyon nerve is very tired so looking to upgrade wheel set without spending loads.....have seen these below but wondered if there were any others worth considering or avoiding?

Cant comment on the SSC wheels but the Fulcrums are great. I used them for 8 months and then sold them to a mate who is still running them 3 years later.

Fulcrum wheels are ok, until you bend a rim, then you find that replacements are not easy to come by, and aren't cheap either. Not the lightest wheels.

Love my Hope Enduro's on Hope Pro 4 hubs, and a lot of my club seem to be running the XC variant in various sizes on pro 2's and 3's as well.

2 complete wheels, fully set up as tubeless cost me £380.

All that you link look OK within the £150-200 a pair budget. The other suggestions are more costly. As for Hope hubs etc, sure, but for £200? Hardly.

You're unlikely to bend a wheel, and if you do it's generally cheaper to replace it than renew rims and rebuild, unless you DIY.

I bought a pair of S/H Hope hubs of eBay for £65, pair of Pacenti rims from Planet X for £80, and it's about £20 for a set of DT Swiss spokes. Built them myself...

Nice work. Like I said though, "unless you DIY". If you DIY then all things are possible for loose change, or indeed for free. I've built up 3 bikes from junkyard bits and the bits box for basically nothing, used them for a bit and then given them away to friends/family, and I run my tourer/commuter the same way. However this isn't for eceryone, some people want to buy a bike and ride it about without getting the spanners out.

Stans Crest are better XC rims. The Arch are heavier and the Hope Enduro's heavier still. I have them on my 29er with Maxxis Ikon tyres and they are superb. Light, very little drag but capable of riding most things.

I had mine built up by Superstar onto their switch hubs (get the steel freehub) which are more reliable than their Tesla hubs. If you buy at the right time you can get a set for just under £300 which is incredible value. Hope hubs are better but at lot more expensive.

Probably not much use, but I picked these up the other week:

They were in the sale and then got another 30% off with a facebook code, so got them for £245.

Worth checking their FB page for random offers/codes.

Also worth checking out the Mavic Crossrides - I picked some up for my HT last year and they've been faultless. I think you can get last years for around £160 if you shop around.
