What's the biggest/most annoying thing you've lost?
Discussion
About a month ago I dusted off an old iPad, charged it up and reset it with the idea of selling it on. I left it on the kitchen table and left it there for a few days as I was busy and had a few other things I wanted to sell, so was going to do an eBay session over the following weekend and list multiple items.
I forgot all about it as it happens, until last weekend when I remembered and.....can't find it. I've had the entire house out, and i mean sofas lifted and taken apart, every single cupboard, drawer checked, all bedrooms checked, the lot. I ended up with a pile of stuff from every possible storage space in the middle of the living room, with the logic that if i emptied the entire house I would find it. Nothing. I even went to our cars and searched in them.
I've given up - it's only worth maybe £50, but to quote the old saying "these things don't grow legs". It's either found its way into the bin, or one of the (very few) visitors we have had in the past month has had it away.
It got me thinking about how we can lose things without any explanation. So how about some stories of what you've lost and never found, or found in ridiculous circumstances years later?

Tools. I spent 4 and a half months doing up our new house before we could move in - working every evening after working my proper job all day, and every weekend - if I hadn't repeatedly put down and spent ages looking for my tools I reckon we could have moved in about 2 months earlier!

A camera lens. I bought a second hand vintage lens off eBay a few years back.
I think I must have bought it and forgotten about it and it never got delivered but I have NO idea where it went, if I got it or where it is.
I have the emails to prove I bought it as I went and searched the computer for those just to make sure I wasn't going crazy but I can't for the life of me remember ever having the lens, using it or storing it.
I know this isn't technically lost, but I am amazed at how I managed to purchase something, forget about it and then remember a few years later and not have any recollection of what I did about it.
I also lost my car at The O2 Arena car park and had to get the security guys to help me find it. That was embarrassing as I was out with a girl I liked for the first time, I was also so concerned about not getting out before the gates closeI drove all the way to the main road with the handbrake on.

Every time I'm working on my car in the garage I lose the tool I need for the next job. I seem to spend half of my time wandering round aimlessly searching for the correct spanner or rachet.
This is a true bloke thing, spread the tools far and wide when doing any sort of DIY or car mechanics job
My missus always watches in dismay when I spend several minutes searching for a hammer/screwdriver/etc. that I've put down somewhere convenient only to find it underneath something. She tried to give me this tool container with a handle to return stuff too after each use but this seemed far too sensible

It's worse with cars, you rest a spanner somewhere in the engine bay and then spend ages looking for it.
