Have tried Googling and looking in all the usual places but can't get a lead on this one.

Windows dialogue box pops up with the word 'Smoni' in the title bar and the text 'ReceiveDatagram error # 10054' in the message area.

The PC then beeps every 30 econds or so and the box can't be closed. Reboot required.

Nothing new installed recently, and anti-virus and spyware is up to date and showing clear.

When rebooted, problem may not appear again for 24-36 hours.

Any clues?

Windows XP Pro SP2
McAfee 9 with latest defs
AdAware SE 1.05 with latest defs
All behind a DG834G Router/firewall
2 other machines on the network, one identical to the one described above and with the same problem, and another Win98 box which is unaffected.
Brother MFC620CN also on network.

A quick and dirty way to find out what it is...

Use Task Mangler to look at the running processes and see if you can find anything dodgy.... Kill the processes one by one until the dialogue box goes.

You might need to use standard spyware tools to see what's kicking it into life.

Smoni error when printing?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi

Has anyone had this error message before.

when trying to print to a new brother hl-1870n network printer, windows 2000 sometimes comes up with an error window called "smoni" and the error says "ReceiveDatagram error #10054"

I have tried looking on yahoo and everything that comes up appears to be to do with a different sort of problem with winsock.

I have a feeling it is more likely to be something to do with netbios but I am not sure as I have never had this problem before.

Thanks devdog. That was the only reference I could find as well. Still scratching my head.

I'll see if i can turn off NETBios in the printer and just rely on TCP/IP instead.
