After the quietest turbo!

Thinking ahead towards Winter and having seen Zwift and Sufferfest I'm sold on the idea. However, we have a small one who'll be sleeping upstairs when I plan to train. It's a general 2 bed house so she won't be sleeping in a seperate wing
Is there such a thing as a turbo quiet enough for me to use in the living room/kitchen whilst the wife watches TV? I hear using mats etc will help- we have wooden floors so that won't help

I think the Elite Crono Fluid ElastoGel Trainer may be the best bet? Cheers for any help

I believe the "direct drive" style of trainer are the quietest option as you don't have the tyre/flywheel contact. They are more expensive though.

I've found you can't hear the noise of the turbo over the fan man enough to keep me cool!

Don't get the tacx satori, the thing sounds like Concorde taking off when you wind it up.

Many I've seen/heard have been very similar- which is why I'm worried I may not find one quiet enough. We have a garage but it's not next to the house so I guess worse case is I could exile myself there in the dark

I have an Elite TT, I can't remember the model but its got magnetic resistance - I set it up in the living room once, we have Timber Floating Sub Floors (assume your talking a similar build up?) - It vibrated through the whole house... I now use it in the Utility Room which has a Concrete Floor and its much better, my wife can still hear it but its not loud enough to affect her TV viewing.

If your floor buildup is Solid Concrete with Timber/Laminate floor, maybe some Acoustic Matting may absorb a lot of the noise but the rear wheel spinning on the roller will still create some...

I think the quietest you'll get is the Tacx Neo - but they are a grand so maybe a little over budget.

Isolating the vibration is the key - using my old tacx satori I got some foam garage floor panels from Halfords - I think they were a tenner - a double layer under the bike worked wonders. With the wheel driven type - the pressure between the wheel and the trainer as well as they tyre you're using makes a big difference and takes some playing to get the correct balance.

I would have to agree with the above, its not so much the turbo, tyre or combination but the floor that's the issue, I have a £120 Halfrauds special TT my wife kindly bought me and upstairs it would wake the dead, downstairs it only makes a noise in the room you're in (can even watch the TV if you turn it up a couple of clicks)
(Typical 30's 3 bed semi, brick walls, wooden floors, laminate downstairs.

Also- IME, kids will learn to sleep through anything- cinema, open air concerts, in the car while music is on etc, so a TT the other end of even a small house might not be an issue. I used to clip the baby alarm off on the brake cable so I could listen/watch if they woke up, in the end I gave up bothering as my child sleeps through it.

PS- Always put a mat under the bike to catch the sweat and ride without a fan on for the full Bikram Yoga effect.

It's not a wind noise really. Its more a scratchy sound. Not the nosiest, but I daresay not the quietist either.

I had the Satori, noisy fecker. Then got the Elite Chronograph Elastogel, quieter than the Tacx but didn't like the design (bike wasn't solid and moved about in the mounts).

Now using Tacx Galaxia rollers, won't be going back to a turbo.
