Son's first car, he didn't fancy the usual Fiesta, Corsa route so went for something a bit different, it's the same price to insure so that was good.

Done my usual painting the calipers, adding mudflaps, cleaning it up, sorted the air con (burst condenser) and fitted some reversing sensors.

Looks pretty good and far better than my first car, an oil burning 1.2 Nova those were the days smile

That's a pretty good first car to be honest!
What engine does it have? and given it's volvo, should last him years, plus given their rep for high safety standards, should give you some peace of mind.

Thankyou it's the 1600cc Petrol just perfect for a first car, R design so looks sporty, yes i did notice all the safety stuff it has incorporated into it, hopefully won't see any activated smile

Thinking out the box for kids and insurance makes a difference. Not many kids have crashed those, so statistically it makes it a good risk for insurers. One of our apprentices at work had a V40 estate. 1.6 petrol, Leather, air con, cruise control , alloys etc and was cheaper to insure than a 1 ltr corsa and quicker, safer and more space for the ladies......... ;-)

Very true, the C30 has all those features but it's only a four seater so the seats for the ladies doesn't apply smile

Great first car.

I've seen those moose shields on a few Volvos, just a bit of fun.

Nice cars, the C30. Prancing Moose decal adds 10 BHP. R-Design bits (and lower springs) very pleasing. Contains Ford Focus bits, they say.

I had a D3, the only downside was expensive dealer servicing. Enjoyed it very much. Only problems were windshield & hatch glass seals which tend to crack if the car is 'left outside.'

Some of the young whipper-snappers were buying the eco-models when the C30 was a current model, as yoof insurance was cheap.

Sure beats the Hillman Imp I had at age 18. :-)

Thankyou and You are correct, it's a prancing moose just a laugh for Volvo owners, besides adds a bit of colour to the wing smile

smile must be an old moose she's definitely not a quick car but that's the idea.

I will service it myself so that won't be a problem, yes i think it's built on a focus chassis and has a ford engine, but the door shuts with a thud i know that's the volvo bits.

It'll be insured with a black box so it's up to him to pay attention to the laws of the road as he will suffer if he doesn't smile

The Volvo forums were quite good for tips. Think the C30's were built in Belgium, with Swedish motors. Or something. I drove past the Belgian factory in my C30 when I had it, and tooted the horn. Some guy waved back.

Well, when in Belgium...

Lovely cars, I think.

Very much this! Not a lot of people have figured this out, which makes it better for the rest of us smile
