Yellow foam that lives in cushions, mattresses and pillows. Can't stand the feel of it against my skin, it's the tactile equivalent of nails down the blackboard.

Scagged fingernails on a wooly jumper or cotton wool is nice.

The thing is it's very strange, you know it's minor, you know it won't really hurt you but the part of the brain that says "oh fk no" doesn't seem to be connected to the part that says man the fk up.

I have a needle phobia, I know it's just a small pinch, I know it's not really a massive thing and many times when I've had a jab at the dentist or an injection it was nothing but still part of my brain equates it to certain painful death. I absolutely cack my pants at the sight of a hypodermic needle, I have no idea why. I wish I could stop it.

Oranges. Not me but a friend. She has a genuine fear/terror of oranges and orange juice.

Not an uncommon one, but heights is mine. But its a bit more odd than that. In a helicopter or plane... no problem with heights. Put me high up in a building and poo comes out. We did the shard a few days ago and I didnt like it. The lower floor was just about OK but the uppder floor where the roof is open gave me the willies. Its the "I could climb over that window" syndrome.

In fact in the last year Ive done The Shard, 1 World Trade Center and the Burk Kalifa in Dubai (148 stories high) The Burj was almost too high to comprehend. The WTC was horrendous.... hated it. Floor to celling windows with no ledge at all. In fact, my palms are sweating just writing this.

Not so much a phobia, but I certainly had a fear of butterflies when I was a kid. I'm certain I know where it came from too, so etched in my memory is the event. Going into a butterfly house as a very young lad, and within seconds of entering the main door a giant African butterfly flew right into my face, scaring the crap out of me. For years after that if a normal butterfly came near me I'd run away flapping my arms in panic, much to the amusement of my Primary School mates if another memory serves me correctly.

Even now as an adult if one (moths too) come near me I'll bat it away, but at least now I can control the "flight" instinct and it just looks like someone getting a bug out of their face.

ETA: I've just Googled giant butterflies and even looking at pictures they give me the creeps. The colours, patterns, size of the wings **shudder**

Moths.

I just can't stand the bloody things. The way they flap around your head and your hair and your nose and your ears. Horrible things.

I can't sleep with one in the room, so I'm often chasing it around with a rolled-up newspaper in the middle of the night.

I thought it odd but my hard as nails northern girlfriend is scared witless by butterflies and moths. She claims it's the random nature of their motion but I'm not so sure. We were due to go to Haiti in January but our tour company backed out because of a few shootings so I looked at Costa Rica, the butterflies put paid to that idea. Curaçao it is.

My niece is scared of sand.

She hates how it feel and the feeling of it between her toes freaks her out.

She goes on seaside holidays abroad but never goes on the beach.

Cheap white polystyrene packaging. The kind your new TV is packed in.

I'm not making it up for the thread or to be kooky - it properly freaks me out. The texture and sound of it makes me physically shake and panic.
