Can't put my finger on a particular advert, but one thing I do miss is a sense of straightforward seriosity from adverts.
I mean, I remember car ads in the '80s and early '90s involved highlighting their technology with some slightly posh RP-sounding bloke's voice purring it's attributes in the background, whereas nowadays it seems to be a 'cheeky chappy' or 'acerbic woman' by default.

I remember an MG Montego advert which i used to look at fondly, all i remember was it was green and black, no colour and had a slip on the bottom to send off to the dealers to arrange a test drive. Got to be the earliest memory of those sort of things i've got, i think it was in a programme for a stunt show i was taken too as a kid. I really did lust after one though at the tender age of about 4/5, and *cough* still smile when i see one on the road *cough*.

The BBH Audi ads from early eighties were nice, I can't remember the script but basically if you wanted to beat jerry to the poolside lounger you needed an Audi 100 with a remarkably low drag coefficient. "Vorsprung durch Technik, as they say in Germany", Audi 100 saloon and avant come in from either side of the screen. Parodied on Spitting Image with "Deutschland uber Alles, as they say in Germany", and a couple of model panzers.
There was also an ad for the Quattro (why they thought they needed to advertise that is beyond me) which showed the black beast cruising around some wet cobbled streets, maybe in Vienna. Very moody, saw it only the once. Looked great, but I was sold already.
My Dad does these wonderful impressions of car ad-lines from the '70s. You've got to get the right balance of gravellyness and posh smoothness, and they you say:
"The Lazy Fireball"
"The Vauxhall Breed's Got Style"
"Put a Chrysler Sunbeam in your life, it'll put a smile on your face"
"Whatever you Collect, include a Toyota"
"Mini, a great little idea from British Leyland"
"Jaguar, Some Day"
"Over 10,000 people can comfortably sit in a Princess"
"Triumph TR7, A Cut Above"
He always draws the line at doing the Allegro ads though
"Allegro's got Vroom, miles and miles of Vroom, change into top, there's Vroom to spare"
There's a brilliant Martin Buckley article about '70s car adverts in Classic Cars a year ago - still got it, a real laugh.
