At vmax earlier this year a couple of guys brought along their DMS mapped (about 525bhp) F80 M3 manual. Here's how it got on........

My car is the red (519bhp, not 530) C63 Saloon at circa 3:30 and 8:00.

About what I expected, seems pretty quick to me although the M3 driver did keep jumping the starts. I think a DCT version would have improved the times slightly. As expected though the 3.0 engine looses out to the bigger capacity motors over 120 ish.
I will almost certainly change my E60 M5 for a F80 M3. It seems the perfect size for me and want to go back to a tighter handling car. The F80 M3 is a fantastic looking car.

C63, I like the look of the new shape one but the old model needed wider arches on the rear to match the front. Yours goes very well.

Yeah, dct would have been fractionally although not visibly quicker to 100, but the end result would be the same at higher speeds.

Mine did 181 on the day vs 175 for the M3

I would suggest that your car is doing the numbers but the M3 isn't you pull away quite nicely at the top end suggesting quite a bit more power than the M3.

Unless the M3 has an awful drag coefficient compared to the C63.

Down to turbo vs n/a I reckon, or heatsoak kicking in at that point due to duration of pull. Larger capacity will always have longer legs too.

Not sure what his mate was smoking at 7:50, saying he 'had' the aventador off the line...

Ricky seems like a chump!

Mid 170s in an M3 still fast for 1.55 mile of runway and a passenger. 181mph in a C63 is quick, possibly one of the quickest to run with only a map. I'm not sure i fancy going any quicker in it either, it feels incredibly light over 170. Much less stable than the aero equipped A45 i ran last year (168 in that). As a comparison, my mates dad brought a stage 1 C7 RS6 (circa 650 to 670bhp) and it managed 182 over the distance. It was way ahead to 130, pulling mid 3s to 60 and high 6s to 100. The upper gearing was too leggy and it lost out big time to the AMG's better ratios allowing me to come within 1mph of it's best run.

As for Ricky, yeah he's probably not everyone's idea of a likeable chap, but he produced the video showing what actually happened and has not claimed any sort of win / superiority. You gotta give him credit for that....... maybe not the jump starts though smile The Aventador can be ignored on this video I think lol

For anyone who is interested, the M3 was doing high 3s to 60 and mid 8s to 100. Pretty much the same as my car. The surface at Brunters is not ideal for launching and my car was around 3/4 of a second slower to 100 than it is on good tarmac. The M3 is 150kg lighter too so it does have a little weight advantage.

The white C63 was stock and kept hitting the 155 limiter, as did the M6 GC.

Hats of to the bloke for speccing a manual. Looks way more fun than just pulling a paddle.

What do people think of their manual F80s?

Really pleased with my 6MT and glad I went manual instead of DCT.

I've done 20k miles now and the box has improved over the miles and the clutch is light enough too.

Also, in common with some other 6MT owners, I don't seem to suffer from the traction problems that other DCT owners complain about.

Don't drive mine on track mind you, but if I did then the DCT would make more sense.
