Just tried the Sweet and Sour Sainsbury's Micro Pot for lunch.

To be honest it has been sat at the back of a cupboard for more than a year, awaiting the fateful day, the awful day that there was nothing else for lunch. I could have headed out and braved the queues at a deli, but this would have involved driving as I work in a very rural environment. In the interests of saving time I decided to eat it.

yuck

Unbelievably sweet. I thought it might calm down after the first bite, but no, the rise of sweetness just rose and rose. Got the damn thing down, but it was hell. Tomorrow it is back to salad, with gratitude.

If you are ever tempted? Honestly, really, please don't. This shouldn't happen to anyone else...

yuck

I'm afraid I have the occasional blind spot. Pot Noodle isn't one of them. I won't be trying a Micro Pot again I can tell you....

Stretching it a bit to put it under 'Food, Drink & Restaurants' wouldn't you say? wink

Amazing discovery, crap food substitute tastes like sh*t shocker.

Next week's revelation - researchers seek to prove or disprove that warmed-up cat st is really, really disgusting.

The sad thing is; there are people who live off this salt and sugar laden "food" and find it perfectly acceptable.

Having a pot noodle right now.

The scorn on this thread is making it feel even more naughty and forbidden.

I had a beef and tomato pot noodle for lunch, it was rank.

Shin Cups are god's own trash food though.

There have always been people who valued quick gratification over quality. In the past it was reined in by lack of availability. These days food is so cheap you can eat what you like. I can serve fresh meat and vegetables for less than the price of a takeaway, but drive past a Domino's and look at what people want.

Same here, waiting for dinner to cook and got hungry so having a guilty Pot Noodle. I actually quite like them.

Quite honestly, I suspect that a Pot Noodle tastes better than the disgusting "food" I had for lunch.

Healthy prawn, veg and noodle stir-fry for supper...and no. no it isn't out of a pot. Making 'em myself.

The supermarket budget pot noodles are surprisingly good for 35p each. The trick is not to put as much water in as the instructions say, leave it about half a centimetre below the "fill line" and they come out really quite tasty. The Spicy Curry one is particularly nice. They also do Chicken flavour.

Whichever supermarket you get them from, they are identical apart from the name on the packaging. The budget ranges are named as follows :

Asda = Smartprice
Sainsburys = Basics
Tesco = Everyday Value

They also do a 2 litre diet lemonade for just 17p a bottle. Very nice when mixed with a bit of squash or used in a lager shandy.

The same goes for Pot Noodle, less is definitely more yes

Pointless trivia; I worked on a prototype Pot Noodle machine, as apprentices we used to eat the noodle straight out of the fryer and it was bloody lovely.
