Bank thinks I am in mortgage arrears when it's their fault!
Discussion
Hi All,
My bank (Halifax) thinks my mortgage is in arrears, when it is not.
End of June I remortgaged to a fixed-rate deal from being on SVR. The advisor informed me I passed a cut-off date for the new deal to take effect in time for my next payment (1st of every month, thus 1st of July, a few days later).
July went by and I happily paid my SVR rate. August has now gone by and last week I paid the mortgage rate @ the fixed deal I have at the interest rate I've gone for. So all good.
However, today Halifax called me telling me I am in arrears!
The fixed rate deal monthly amount - the SVR rate = what Halifax online shows I am in arrears by.
So it seems like Halifax thinks I was on the new mortgage rate during my July 1st payment (but paid SVR), but I was told I was on SVR and the SVR amount was paid! Stranger, online on my account the mortgage details showed the new deal information (mortgage term, fixed rate deal, interest rate, but the SVR rate).
Has anyone seen this? I will call Halifax to sort it out but they seem to think I am in the wrong!

One piece of advice; pay the required amount and then complain afterwards to get your money back.
Do NOT allow it to drag on out of principle, they'll report to the credit agencies that you are in mortgage arrears which is one of the worst things you can have on your credit file..........

So tne payments were not collected by direct dbit?
The payments were/are collected automatically by direct debit, no problems there. The new mortgage amount is automatically deducted. But it looks like there's some discrepancy in their reconciliation.
Talking to them is like banging my head against a brick wall.
I could pay and then complain after, that's a strategy.

^^ This, this, this. It's not as if Halifax are going to run away with your money if it was never owed - you'll get it back. Leaving that aside, I'm always surprised at the end of a mortgage just how much seems to be "due and payable" in last month or part month.Gassing Station | Finance | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
