Evening all,

I'd like to plead a little because i've been on PH for ages and this is the first time i've started a 'what car' thread! Although I am a little stuck and would appreciate some help.

It's taken a while but I've finally realised that i don't really like convertibles. My current toy is a 3 wheeler which is very open (no roof or screen), and I've been thinking recently about a change to something with a roof which is a little more usable. Budget would be 7.5k and I don't want to start with work - or at least bodywork - although don't mind some fettling. Some points:

I've ran two MGB GT's now and they're perfect, but I want something a little different now.
Would like a series Landrover but don't have the garage height
Porsche 914 is currently top of this list, but my budget would mean importing one which may be beyond my abilities
Not into 90's stuff and not really 80's either
Had a 944 but I didn't gel with it
Love an Elan + 2 but over my budget these days
Prefer the eccentric look rather than flash!

Thoughts on a postcard please...

P

I know it's an 80's/90's car but how about a TVR S series? Not exactly styled like a 90's car and you would get a mint one for your budget.

If it had to be older how about a 3000M?

EDIT: I got so carried away looking at Tivs I forgot your main requirement! 3000M though...

There are one or two gorgeous looking Silver Shadows on line but they will probably be a money pit and be "too flash"!

Alfetta GT? Great handling, lively performance and not many about.

Was going to suggest the Alfetta GTV, too.
Also Alfasud, or Sud Sprint.
Fulvia and Bertone Gt or Junior are way more than the budget.

Lancia HPE Volumex, Fiat/Bertone X1/9? I'd imagine there's not many left though.

If you're into left-field, a Renault Alpine GTA? Not strictly tin top, more plastic top, and not sure if you'll get a decent one for that money. Even more left field, Matra-Simca Bagheera or Murena?

Wow a Fulvia or an Alfa for £7.5k, I didn't think you could get them that cheap.

Beautiful cars though. I'd forgotten how pretty the 504 Coupe was
