Advert car registrations - why is it that...?

...on most of the car ads (especially Rover/Ford), the registration numbers are "Vertically symmetrical"? ie the numbers are usually something like 111 VMV?
Is it so the advertisers can just "flip" the image electronically for left hand drive, or is there some deeper subliminal meaning to it?

Some shots/scenes appear more balanced & or pleasing to the eye when flipped.
many pics in the press are flipped so that the main subject is looking in towards the centre of the page rather than looking off it, this is the same for human subjects or cars.On the subject of reg. plates, I was in Bradford today. NEVER have I seen so many 'personalised' (read: t

It is because a standard plate, i.e ML54 ABC, can look and become dated now within 6 months and thus rendering the advert 'old'.
'Personal' plates are used to keep the advert available for viewing for a longer period.
That's basically the thinking behind it.
The idea that you can 'flip' the picture with a symetrical plate may have some validity, although with technology today, the plate can easily be doctored.

I was just going to say that. Surely the car manufacturers could wack it in photoshop... hey presto, new plate?
But surely for TV/film adverts it would be easier/quicker just to "flip" the whole thing through the vertical axis to make RHD look like LHD?
