For #2 offspring, will be his first full size bike, and to be honest he likes the boardman for the colour & extra set of brake levers (gimick?). So any other options out there around £500 ? Roads are crap round here so CX or 28+ tyres a good option. Doesn't want an MTB or suspension bike, or a white bike the fickle sod. Needs to be available in 50cm frame.

I was looking a little higher up in the range Halfords sell but seemed like good bikes. The only reason I bought a Cannondale CAADX was because I'd have had to use the local Halfords for the Boardman.

I have a Boardman CX and it's a great bike.

My bottom bracket needed replaced at about 700 miles and replaced the brake pads for sintered items and it's a good bike if a little heavy.

I like the extra levers, so much so that I'm having them fitted to my new bike right now.

Well after doing the tours of the lbs's we ended up getting a Cube Attain. Was on sale so under the boardman price. Despite offsprings initial requirements he spotted the blue cube he made his mind up.
