Afternoon all.

Right the Box has just developed agearbox fault. The engine management light is 'on' on the dash and the gearbox is not engaging / disenganging gears smoothly. Indeed, it feels like a clutch failure in a normal car with the gears banging in and out of place. Especially 1st and 2nd when coming to a rest and taking off. Indeed, when it first happened I though the car behind me had run into me. Not driven the car more than 1/2 a mile since it started (luckily was near the office).

Car is modified with an AMD remap - 185bhp and 330lbft - which was done when I bought the car 4-years ago.

The DSG was serviced shortly after buying the car.

What do people think?

Sounds like the DSG mechatronic unit which is a not uncommon fault on that vintage. You might find companies who can repair them now rather than a VW dealer who will just replace it at a large cost.

Afternoon.

Just to close this off. Turned out to be the (shift) solenoids that had failed.

Not sure why VAG couldn't identify then as they were listed as faulty on the scan.

Anyway. Repaired, serviced and back on the road for less than what VAG wanted to just remove the gearbox.

I used KSM Autos in Carshalton. Quick service and looked after the car whilst I was away.

The benefit of having popular cars is that there are lots of specialists out there who can often do a better job than the main dealers at much more reasonable prices.
