Allergy developing out of nowhere

Heres one for the more medically minded folks, as I think I may have developed an allergy to my cats :/.
Situation is: ive had cats all my life, loved them and never had an issue in the past. I moved into a flat that didnt allow pets last year for a year and gave my cats to my mum to look after (she has 4 so my 2 wernt really a bother). Moved back into my new flat and got my cats back, only saw them on occasional weekends prior.
Ive noticed since ive moved in I cant have them in proximity to my face or my eyes and sinuses get irritated. I do have mild hayfeaver but ive noticed a direct correlation to flare ups with proximity to my cats. Ive heard that people who have never been exposed can develop an allergy but ive only had a year of being away fron them.
Is this type of allergy possible/normal and is it likely to go away in time? Im in my early 20s if that makes a difference.

Possible yes and improving with time/exposure also yes. Sympathies tho, that's gotta suck. Ask pharmacist about a long acting antihistamine maybe?

So clearly adult immune systems pulling st like that is a thing that happens sometimes, in general terms. I had the opposite, as a kid, teenager & young adult if I went near cats or dogs my eyes would swell up, get wheezy and have a runny nose, Now I have 2 x Dogs and 2 Cats!
Could be you body is just being sensitive and if you crack on then it will be ok
I would take an antihistamine everyday and see how it goes after a few months

Had a very similar thing. As a kid, Upto 22 yrs I guess, I always had dogs. Never been allergic, since then have still spent lots of time around them, family and friends have dogs/cats and never had a problem. In April we got our own dog (now early 40's), a cockapoo which are supposed to be non -allergic, and I instantly started to have a reaction - itching eyes, sneezing and a tight chest. Seriously thought dog would have to go. Starting taking antihistamines and they helped a little. Took around 10 weeks for my body to adjust and then it was fine. But if I go away for a few days I start to get symptoms again when I return for a couple of days.
