Techie start up (direct encrypted files sending)
Discussion
- **At the moment Seshi doesn't work with Safari due to Apple's WebRTC webkit undergoing development, should be working soon see link below for further info if req'd****
I've been having a few discussions with a guy who appears to be developing something with amazing potential, but a problem he's facing is a lack of user feedback. I've mentioned that a number of PHers might be in a good position to offer some constructive criticism.
Rather than try to describe in my own words what 'it' does, the following is from his one pager:
"Seshi is a technology solution which solves the problem of instant file sending. Is that file too big for email? Perhaps you’re not allowed to use USB sticks in your office but need a secure way to send files direct. Seshi utilises newer technologies trusted by organisations such as Siemens Communications.
Our solution is simple, and may be shaped to respect your organisation's internal security policies. No data has to leave your organisation, and we do not store your data.
Seshi’s main advantages are as follows:
Sends files directly between sender and receiver (therefore faster, better control) Encrypted transfer
Highly secure
No install needed
It ‘just works’ using your browser
No transfer or file size limits"
He's a good guy and deserves for his hard work to pay off - would you mind using the service to help him generate some feedback please?

I've signed up. Started adding a 4k video file (1.4gb) it was taking ages to encrypt (as expected i guess) but there was no easy way to stop it once it started. It also offers to play the 4k file which either his website is not capable of, or, my pc cannot manage, or i broke it trying to stop it loading. - either way its just sat trying to start at the moment.
If anyone wants to try receiving the file the link is https://seshi.io?key=2080284622#fileBoxes

I can see it in "Friend's Files" - but I can't do anything except select or unselect it.As for the service - it aims to solve a problem which is mainly encountered by users with low bandwidth - but it needs high bandwidth to work properly...

I must have broken it trying to stop the process then :-) I knew i had good UAT skills. As for the service - it aims to solve a problem which is mainly encountered by users with low bandwidth - but it needs high bandwidth to work properly...
Tell him to sign up to Rackspace's Incubator program for the hosting, and hawk himself round a number of technology and hosting/service provider customers
It'd make the most sense to get some guidance and funding from the US/Bay Area (but it's a bit too much like the HBO show Silicon Valley) to probably get either funding and groth or be bought out by someone early on if what he's got is half decent
Does he have a Weismann Score?

Select, Unselect, Select, Unselect.
UI gives no clues about how to get the file.
I saw you connected (i assume it was you as it didn't give me any idea who you were). Perhaps i needed to push the file to you but that wasn't obvious either. I could just see you were not sharing anything with me.UI gives no clues about how to get the file.

No need to venture that far when we have a thriving Tech start-up culture right here in the UK, no need to look further than ShoreditchOK so crap UI and no real instructions or details on how it works, which puts of companies because most people who think about it aren't going to simply put sensitive files somewhere unless it's very clear where they're going and how they're stored.
Also what's the point of it? I'm in the UK, I need to send a file to someone in the US. I send it and I shut my computer down and go home - how are they going to retrieve it?

From what you described it sounds like a nice idea but I'd be worried about the lack of information on the website as to how safe/secure it is.
I have a background in software and consumer products and now work for a UK cloud tech startup and I look at the information on that website and I wouldn't use it.
I can't get the terms of service or privacy policy pages to load so I can't see how safe my data might be.
On the about page, I would have expected to see a better description of what is going on to the data (dumbed down of course) but with descriptions of the data being encrypted, authenticated and sent in a way that it can't be accessed, no man in the middle attacks or whatever has been implemented.
At the moment, it just looks like a browser client for FTP?
