Racing Blue Clio 182 Cup

So after searching for something that will be relatively cheap for track days I settled on this.
In general it's not a bad one having only covered 64,000 miles with the all important belt change completed earlier in 2016, it requires a little bit of tidying up but im hoping to get my first track day in this year. The brakes require immediate attention so Brembo high carbon discs and pads were ordered and arrived today ready for me to fit early next week.
First impressions are all positive after a run up to the cat and fiddle I was left rather impressed by how much fun I was having, plenty enough grunt for such a small package without having to risk your license to feel involved in the experience.
Im looking to carry out most of the work's myself and future plans include a cage, braided lines, ds2500 pads, 15" lighter wheels with some decent track rubber and some more supportive seats with harnesses.

Looks a good'un, specially in Racing Blue, although i do feel a little sadness when these start getting stripped out etc, IMO they are at that stage where they need to be OE/OEM condition, but that's just me lol!
Set of good Tyres, re-fresh all the Suspension components and what not, and that's all you really need on Track.

I totally understand your sentiments and I'm looking to complete the work's with this in mind, re trimmed steering wheel in alcantara, recaro's from the trophy, oz f1 alloys from the ph1 for track and maybe some speedline turini's for general use. Safety devices offer a cage where the interior remains intact which will potentially be the way I go where thats concerned.Set of good Tyres, re-fresh all the Suspension components and what not, and that's all you really need on Track.
Luckily it's recently had a suspension refresh with cup dampers and eibach pro kit springs so it's not far from being ready for track use, the cage will be a later addition if I feel it's required, the majority of people I've spoke to seem to think they are worthwhile given the little crash protection the standard car offers.
So I've made a little progress on the clio today with a full refresh of the front brakes, it turned into a bit of a nightmare as most of the bolts had seized, plenty of wd40 and perseverance later and I managed to get it sorted. I'm a total novice where mechanics are involved, apart from the seized bolts everything went to plan.
How they looked at the start of the day, plenty of life left in them.
And how they finished up.

Time for a little update, turns out the rear discs were in a terrible state.
I can now confirm that it stops exactly how it should, and after bedding them in I've now got the confidence to lean on them a little.
My eldest lad has been asking to go camping for the last year or so and with North Wales not a million miles away I decided I could kill a few birds with one stone and combine a driving trip with it. The perfect opportunity to enjoy the car, the scenery, the fantastic roads and some bonding time without my wife breathing down our neck's. The weather was fantastic throughout and the Clio was in it's element on the tight twisting b roads surrounding the national park, it really is superb and it still induces a smile at lukewarm speeds.
I managed to get some better photographs along the way.

When I was 17 I had a MK2 expression 1.2 16v and I was absolutely braying it down a slip road onto a dual carriage way one day when this RB 182 overtook me like I was standing still. It was that very moment that got me into cars and I was determined I would buy and run a 172 as a uni student (would have made my life uncomfy). 10 years on and Ive actually only just bought my 1st renaultsport, a Megane 275.
Ive been browsing classifieds over on cliosport.net recently and I am rather tempted to get a 172 (nice monaco or a flame red) just to have a go with or get a trophy and live with refurbing those bloody dampers every 2 years. Ive driven a 172 a few times and they were a laugh.

Similar memory to me. 2002, I was 19, just passed my test and bought a mk2 1.2 Dynamique. I was so jealous of the RenaultSport drivers in their 172s and 182s when they came out. Like you, I remember these being very quick for what they were and in comparison to most hot hatches of the previous decade.I now have an urge to buy a 172 Cup.
IMO I'd buy one soon ; I had 90% of the fun of a 205 GTi in mine. Superb cars.
I own a black gold one and they are fantastic cars that just seem to get under your skin.
Glad you have taken it on a good road trip already. I took mine to the West Coast of Scotland a few months back with my brothers and it was amazing to have the cars on wonderful roads. The thread is on page 135 here if you fancy a trip north. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Cheers, they really are great value for money, I've taken it out for a decent drive this evening over some of my local roads and it never fails to impress. I've joined cliosport.net some great information especially the guide's section. I picked up some turini's with ad08r's a few weeks ago, the difference over the nasty budgets that were present on purchase is night and day, here's a few photographs.
